What would you do with a 128GB Micro SD chip anyway /g/?

I would personally back up my most favorite animu shows on one.

I'd honestly wouldn't know what to do with one if I got one really. I already have an uhs 32GB microsd and it still has 10gb free.

I have one on my Surface 3 to store my games and documents on.
Sustained speeds are slower than Hard Drives but the Random access of these make loading game levels faster than a traditional hard drive.

Stick a shit ton of retro games on there and plug in my raspi2

Kids don't fall for that flac meme.

Why not? Microsd chips have unappreciated high write life. Wearing down a 128gb microsd is virtually impossible for the average joe in his lifetime you know.
>>
>>51257055
The average joe could never wear down a 128gb micro sd chip enough to render it inoperable. It would be fine to backup data in desu
>>
>>51257165
Depends.
Sandisk uses QLC flash, which wear out after as little as 100 to 1000 cycles. There is wear levelling so it's not all bad news.
>>
>>51256924

>Flash Media
Bad idea, if you're constantly writing new backups to it.
>>
>>51256924
store more podcasts locally
store more music locally

that's it, everything else I do on my phone is cloud based.

everything I do on my computer is stored to a local drive and backed up to a network drive, or is small enough that the 32gb sd I have in my laptop is more than enough for my needs.
>>
>>51256924
is it relatively easy to digest one of these?

say, for example, I've been detained in the border for certain reasons and I've got several encrypted files I wouldn't want to be forced to decrypt. I'd like to simply "eat" my way out of the situation, not in a homo way though.

I'd also like to recover those files later.

has anyone actually been in this position?

>tfw you could only buy 128MB micro sd cards 10 years ago
It's insane, memory didn't double or quadruple in 10 years. It literally became 1,000 as massive in size and the price stayed the same (~$100) too. God damn
>>
>>51257445
Interesting thing is that card makers only create 200GB microSD cards. 8GB, 16GB, etc are all just 200GB cards with a gigantic amount of bad blocks.
Binning at its finest.

>>
>>51256924
Put it in my raspberry pi. Lately I've been using it as a server for specific things like work files and music and a server to handle torrents. The problem is I originally intended it for it to be my cheap main server for backups but the bottle neck between the USB 2.0 port and the External Drive I had attached to it kind of soured me on the idea.

Of course 128 GB is kind of shitty for a server but I figure it'd be good for important documents and torrents.

>>
>>51257919
Still not really a problem. mSD chips of today have wear leveling so even a day of heavy streaming wouldn't overwrite the entire 128 GBs of memory. By the time you upgrade to a 512GB mSD card you'd have only written over the entire 128 mSD card less than 1,000 times due to streaming.

Only thing I'd want so much storage for is my tablet for of game emulation and media like movies and music. I only use my tablet when I'm at home and in bed usually. Don't have need for that much storage on the go so it'd be wasted on my phone. Is 128gb the biggest offered? I could have sworn we were up to mass producing 250gb plus by this point.

Unrelated but who here is swipe texting master race? Shit is awesome.

What tablet are you using add a "mobile work station"? Windows tablet I presume?

Does a dual micro sd slot tablet even exist? I've always wondered if they'll ever make one. Maybe even a tablet with a second m.2 slot?
>>
>>51258172
It makes sense though. Why would companies waste money creating 8 different chips when they can just make 1 and instead of disposing ones that don't reach the target capacity, they can sell them at lower capacities.

Obviously. I bought a USB stick from China that I knew would be fake just to see this first hand. It was advertised as a 32GB stick and if you plug it in it displays 30GB of space. I tested it and discovered that in reality it only has about 17GB (strange number, I know) of space.

HP Pavilion x2, the O.G. version. Windows 8.1 Enterprise Embedded. The flash drive is full of digital tools. I pretty much operate a mobile computer repair station, show up to customers house, fix their shit. Sometimes I need to create a bootable DVD or change the boot partition on a flash drive from win7 to win8 depending on what the customer wants.

I could use linux for this, but windows is just so much easier and with it being embedded I can lock the OS down pretty hard so it runs really damn fast, the only thing that's shitty and slow is the USB speed. caps out at 25MB/s. Otherwise, good tablet ... Well so long as you complete rip out all the shit HP loads up onto it.
>>
>>51258153
I can't think of any normie scenario that would over write a 128 GB mSD card enough times for it to become faulty. Write endurance for mSD chips are 10,000 - 100,000 depending on cheap the brand is.

Overwriting a 128 GB mSD card 24/7 would take weeks to kill it though so I doubt anyone would want to perform such a test.

The point of a microsd is small storage. It's meant for small devices. If you're backing up, use a regular drive.

There's literally no point in using one of these for backup
>>
>>51258272
>I can't think of any normie scenario that would over write a 128 GB mSD card enough times for it to become faulty
Dashcam.
microSDs are rated at a few hundred in a Car environment, a 64GB card won't even last 6 months for dashcam purposes.

Sandisk made a SD card precisely for the dashcam market and they guarantee a 1200 cycle count.

>>
>>51258307
Heat mostly.
That's how manufacturers simulate 1,000,000 cycles on SLC Flash memory, they're not going to spend a decade testing the memory before selling it.
>>
>>51258253
Ugh never understood why companies load up their products with garbage. Nothing is more a pain in the rear than debloating a device. I had a windows tablet myself until my dumb ass stepped on it. Money.

If you made 1000 computers and some one paid you 50 bucks for each one you sell for no other reason than allowing them to install their buyware onto it, what would you do?

A tablet with a fully enabled m.2 drive would be pretty amazing. I don't think anything this side of a Surface will have that though. The board in my tablet is literally like 2" by 5" ...It's a cell phone with a 10" screen and a pound of battery.
