It's going to suck no matter what OS you put on it. If you loaded a minimal Debian install with LXDE, you'll run out of RAM the moment you try to run Firefox. Then try loading an average webpage and it will slow to a crawl. A cheapo Android phone would run circles around it.

I installed win98 in a VM and got super nostalgic.
I wanted to keep it as my main OS and use linux for accessing the internet, but hardware is too advanced for it and even xp software is often incompatable.

You might be able to get CB++ to run on it. I had a T22 with a 900mhz P3 and 256MB of RAM run it. You have to use midori and can't multitask though.
