If you don't care for the warranty (I personally don't), you can just root it the normal way. I've used my S6 edge for about 3 months, any hardware defects would've become obvious and I saw nothing.

You can do it on any system. I've only used Windows so my situation is just that. There's several guides out there but I've done it enough times that I don't really use them (had S2,3,4,5,6 - gotta love that amoled). Just find the TWRP recovery latest version for your device, download latest ODIN and flash the recovery using PDA/AP option in ODIN. Then reboot into recovery, and flash SuperSU.zip from chainfire's site. Only way I know that there's no risk of breaking stuff on any samsung phone.
