Windows is excellent. It's even better than Mac (faggots OS) and secure if you can use Common Sense. Linux is for poorfags.

ITT: Spillover from /v/eddit blaming their ineptitude with anything other than Windows on the OS.

It's kind of funny seeing so many of these supposedly really "technically adept" types go all apeshit over people using Linux or OSX. My experience is that it's usually just their ego telling them that "No, you can't be bad at something relating to computers, so it has to be something other than you" to avoid having to admit that they only know how to use Windows.

Personally I dumped Windows for OSX around 2007 and after a lot of tinkering with UNIX stuff in OSX all my desktops have since then run Linux (while my laptops run OSX).

At this point Windows has to me become "That OS the clueless, kids who want to play games and those who have to use some really obscure tools only available on Windows".
Pretty much all the software I run into, even the obscure stuff like AVR Studio, Matlab, Quartus II, etc., run on ether Linux or OSX.

How it really is:
Windows:
>Just werks, easy to install
>You have to download a lot of the drivers yourself, have to do it for your video card, on board sound card and most of the wifi adapters. Takes minimal time.
>Have to install other Microsoft shit like net framework
>All games work
>Able to run Microsoft Word natively, which is the best fucking text editor if you write a lot of long papers with a lot of sources
>Susceptible to viruses but only if you are retarded or have flash enabled.
>guaranteed botnet
>Has more specialized software, like Photoshop and whatnot. But let's be honest, how many people use this in a professional capacity?

Loonixxx:
>Just werks, easy to install
>No need to use command line, ever, if you don't want to.
>You have to download zero drivers, they're all in the kernel. Proprietary Nvidia drivers are optional. If for some reason the wifi adapter doesn't work you're most likely fucked as hacked ndiswrapper drivers are pretty shit.
>Most games don't work. Notable Exceptions: CSGO, Dota, Hon. With SteamOS more and more games are becoming available for linux though.
>For some reason, with nvidia drivers, Linux performs better in terms of FPS then my Windows install
>Libre Office is decent, but it shits the bed when you need to reference a lot in papers. There are some plugins that can manage references better, but every time you add a new one it has to check and cycle through all the references previously added. When you're writing a dissertation this can take a minute EVERY TIME you add a source.
>Essentially no viruses.
>not a botnet
>Way more productive than Windows, auto focuses windows.
>more customizable.
>Runs my usenet servers without any problems, while on Windows they break every month or so.

Just use both, there is no reason not to. Claiming one is superior because you lack the intellect to use the other is downright retarded.

You just made that up, i just use wine for an small number of programs and most of them runs as fast as on windows, maybe the only difference is that it take 4 or 5 seconds when you load the wine server the first time. If you have any doubt just check the compatibility in the winehq page, playonlinux also makes very easy to manage wine.

https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=25607

Btw, i only tested photoshop a bit just for curiosity and worked fine (xubuntu 14.04) but i use gimp and krita (mostly gimp) and i don't feel any need to pirate photoshop.

I can agree with you in most things but if I were a new person getting into linux and trying to use steam right now, I would have to do this:

http://elza.me/blog/2015/06/Steam/

Which you could argue is just removing files, you can do it manually without using the terminal, but in the end it would be quicker to use it.
>>
>>51250828
I personally use Ubuntu Gnome. I use command line all the time because I do not mind but when I just started using linux I tried to avoid it because it seemed daunting. I could get pretty much everything from the package manager or binaries from website directly. Most Gnome extensions can even be installed through Firefox directly. Most things I do in command line are things that are not even possible on Windows in the first place. If only Linux had games and native MS Word.

I compiled one thing in two years, not because I had to but because I wanted to try it.

I could Webm something for you, make a specific request.

>>
>>51250828
>Look up any tutorial on how to do anything in linux, everyone wants you to use the terminal
Because it's the easier way.

It's easier to make a tutorial consisting of three commands and explain what the fuck they're supposed to do in your system than do the "windows style tutorial" aka 18 screenshots of the entire desktops with desired item you should click circled in red step after step.

It's easier for the author of the tutorial, for the user (copy pasting the command, clicking enter and eventually confirming with password is the most time efficient method, try to prove me wrong).
Not to mention that if something goes wrong a properly written software will return you an error so you at least have a chance of figuring out what went wrong.

Sure, just like I said, but a new user would have to find these first. Which are a few hundred fucking dozen folders away. I'm not really arguing about the guy in the blog, but if I had this problem (which I actually have everytime I try a linux distro now) and I didn't want to use the terminal, that blogpost is one of the easiest ways of finding a fix by googling the error and it's not extremely obvious about getting into these folders instead of using those commands.

This is one instance, of course. But often any problems that arise can be fixed by googling them and just using the terminal, and it's hard to have a fully stable experience by using Ubuntu, which is pretty much the novice distro.
