What the fuck is this new shit about notebooks only packing ULV chips? If I want a full voltage CPU I have to get a workstation which costs a lot and has a powerful GPU that I don't need?

Seriously, 3 years ago you could get a powerful fulll voltage quad-core CPU at a decent price. Wtf happened?

My i5 3210M is as powerful as the latest i7 ULV.

Delete yourself.

Build a desktop?

I don't want to/don't have space for a desktop. And I also take my notebook with me something. Anyway it's besides the point.

So your complaining about how they won't put high power chips in low power notebooks? Get a regular laptop, also how do you not have space for a desktop? Do you live in a 1 bedroom box?

>So your complaining about how they won't put high power chips in low power notebooks

No, wtf are you even reading? 3 years ago they were putting normal voltage chips in all 15"+ notebooks and some 13-14" ones. Now they're all ULV.

This. My new 15.6" laptop is great. 1tb HDD, 120gb SSD, 8gb ram, 1080p display, nice keyboard, and a decent gpu (950m) that I have no need for.

However, it's got an i5-5200u. Performance is acceptable, but I really wish they'd put a normal processor in. As it stands, I get 8+ hours of battery.
>>
>>51247066

My 3 year old notebook's CPU is more powerful than that.

But who gives a fuck about battery life on a 15" machine? If it lasts 3-4 hours then it's good. It shouldn't last more because it's not really that portable.

I have one. Usefull for me.

stop being a whiny ass nignog

Your CPU is in fact, NOT more powerful than the 5200U. It's about equal on performance.
>>
>>51246748
if you're in the UK you can get a barebones laptop from pcspecialist that have decent powered chips
>>
>implying they dont scale up to turbo mode when needed or even permanently if you set high performance mode
>>
>>51247978

It's a bit more powerful, but the thing I wanted to point out was that it's 3 years older.
>>
>>51248054
It really isn't. Just because it's clocked slightly higher doesn't mean it's faster. Broadwell's higher instructions per clock offsets the clock speed difference. It's made that way so while it isn't faster than the 3 old CPU, it doesn't really need to be and it uses a FUCKTON less power in the process.
>>
>>51246748
You're that minority of poorfags with special needs that nobody care about.
The rest of the people care about battery life.
>>
>>51248121

Battery life on a 15"+ inch notebook shouldn't be a priority.
>>
>>51246748
What happened? The laptops got thinner and worse cooled meaning any full voltage chip would throttle.

If you need anything more powerful in an average notebook that also puts out more heat, you're looking for a gaymen laptop.

Otherwise the only laptops that need higher power chips are workstations.

Uh. Most likely, people realized that they actually wanted to get some work done without being tethered to an AC outlet.

In other words, the same reason these stopped being a thing:

>In the 1990's the Ergo Brick achieved significant acclaim due to its unique design. Before powerful notebook computers came along, Ergo defined the category "transportable computer" with grace and power. You used a Brick if you wanted portable horsepower (in contrast with wimpy early notebooks). This is the Moby Brick, an Intel 486 machine with 15Mb of RAM and a 100Mb hard drive. Complete with power supply, keyboard, Logitech serial mouse, 16 color 640x480 LCD display (the machine also has VGA out) and a nylon carring case. The machine has DOS 6.22 installed and it boots and operates in DOS fine. The two coolest things about this machine are the case and the LCD monitor. The case is speckled charcoal gray with large rubber blocks at each corner. It's superbly designed and very, very elegant. Dimensions are 8x11x3" (about the size of a ream of paper). The 9.25" LCD monitor is also a graceful creation. It does not use a VGA plug, but rather a special Brick connector.

inb4 hurr these exist now in the form of { Mac Minis, Asus whatevers, other bs } no, this particular device filled the niche of a power user who wanted maximum performance at various locations. It has far more in common with early PC luggables than with any modern ultra-compact computer.
>>
>>51248290

And how does that compare to actual notebooks of today?
>>
>>51248350

How is that relevant?

How does a Model T compare to a Tesla S?
>>
>>51248464
Not him but:

We stopped using full voltage CPU except for high end workstations (that OP doesn't want to pay for).

Also, full voltage laptop CPUs nowadays are quadcore 8-thread beasts that come rather close to i7 desktop series, not some faggot dual-core junk like the i5 3210M. You should be willing to shell out more money if you want that processing power.
