Is the >no apps really that bad? Is there something I would really miss if I switch to Windows Phone? Maybe when WP10 comes out it will get better?
I'm tired of Android's >no updates bullshit and iOS devices are just too expensive.
If you're one of those persons that uses a different app for everything you shouldn't change. I left android a couple of month ago and I don't miss a thing but everything I use in my phone for doesn't go far beyond internet, messaging, music and to cheat on tests in college.
I always had android until now and I did had tons of apps on my phone but I never actually used most of them. I just don't like to depend on app to do anything. I like to do my own shit (I use a lot of spreadsheets and OneNote for that). Apps just feel like dumb money baits most of the time for me.

Yes, I've bought the Huawei Ascend W1 upon release, and was extremely satisfied with WP back then considering all apps were there (Snapchat, YouTube, etc). It broke down half a year later, I got myself a Moto G which I kept for 1.5 years and only switched back to a Lumia 2 months ago.

You can do all of these things on any device. You do not need an "app store" with billions of pieces of malware, shovelware, links to youtube videos, fart buttons, and endless clone after clone after clone of some other program.
Figure out what you expect your device to actually do, then look to see if the requisite software exists for the platform. Nothing else matters.

There isn't some vast conspiracy explaining why people don't buy Windows Phones. People just don't like Windows Phones. At every price point, Windows Phones are outclassed by Android phones and iPhones.
I got a Lumia 640 for like three months now, and i prefer the OS to Android's.
But the store is indeed lackluster, but you can still find decent apps for most things, but not enough to feel you have a choice for ie a video player app. Also the store's search sucks for example searching "Blah Blah" might not get you "BlahBlah"

Bing Maps is inferior to Google Maps, and this is where the Maps app on WP gets the info from. It also likes crashing back to the homescreen whenever I try and get transit directions. People told me to try Here Maps/Transit, but it doesn't even have transit for my city.
