Windows Server Thread
bet you /g/entoomen have not though of this!
What experiences have you have with Windows Server?
Windows server is the best, if you cant admit then you must be a serious faggot. As long as its not a SBS.

But compared to any Apache server it's fucking garbage.
It just werks to be honest, never had a problem with it. Easy as fuck to configure, after dealing with Unix-like servers it's like a breath of fresh air.

ran windows server 2012 on my gaming rig because I got it for free through dreamspark
it was just regular windows 8 minus metro shit

Because wasting precious resources to draw a GUI makes sense on a server OS

Ayyyy
You shouldn't be using Windows Server unless your business requires AD/Exchange.
With that said, I run a Server 2012 instance to host my personal portfolio and some other projects (mostly SignalR hubs, and MVC.NET WebAPIs...)
Pros: remote desktop, piss easy disk management, good driver support
Cons: proprietary, not linux

Is this really a con if it's not a fsf approved distro?

If having a gui makes you so salty then just use terminal server. this is meant for people you can't into command lines.

Pain and suffering desu
I installed Server 2008 R2 Standard onto an old PC of mine to set up a personal WSUS server so I wouldn't have to install so many updates from MS at home.
It looks super comfy and easy to configure, but it ran terrible (granted this was a 2007 office desktop with 4 GB of RAM and a core 2 duo). MMC frames would take like 5 minutes to open and MSSQL was using ALL THE RAM so I eventually decided it was more trouble than it was worth.
