OP, this shit will only get worse. You'll finally crack and "upgrade", or it will just accidentally decide to do it for you.
Then you'll be on their little spyware and adware reservation. Eventually your only place to buy "apps" will be the company store. It'll start to feel comfy after a while: Cortana will grow and evolve to anticipate your needs, you'll hardly have to touch a keyboard anymore.
And Windows 10 will be so convenient, especially when your credit card is linked to your Windows Forever account: desktop ads removed for $5/month, non-crippled file browser for only $2/month, newest MS Word for $10/month, DirectX 13 for $20/month, turning off the light that sometimes mysteriously blinks on your Webcam at only $2/month...
The memory of an old fashioned computer interface, requiring clicking and even (gasp) typing, will start to fade. You'll forget why you ever bothered to try to configure or change your computer...there's no place on the screen anymore to even do that sort of thing, so it must be a silly thought, right?
A file system...what was that again? All I see now is a "My App Store Purchases" folder...is that what those computer hackers used to mess with decades ago, back before they had to get licensed and registered with the state?
(Goes back to sipping sugar water, swipes credit card, fingerprint scan to open web browser)

Good riddance really, but I'd still rather use a decent OS, with say CWM, Xmonad, or Ratposion instead. The way MS does things, this might change again overnight, on some stupid, know-nothing executive's whim.
Bonus!: I know some of you faggots around here have a fetish for Haskell. Xmonad will give you the the chance to use it in the configuration files. It's always nice to be able to put otherwise useless skills to good use.

stupid drop down list design
Some applications trash it with their shit other have to be manually added to appear.
The only good thing about it is the search function but that can be easily replaced with a keystroke launcher or shortcuts.

Wrong, humanities students commonly use LaTeX. I teach English in a University and all my colleagues use it, and we're trying to break undergrads from Word dependence.
Being able to focus on content and not formatting is great.

I'm coming from Windows 8.1 and immediately changed it to be full-screen. Luckily that option still exists.
Way better than the start menu. Won't be trashed by every application that you install and every shortcut is quickly reachable.
The only thing I'm missing is to hide the start button like it was in Win 8. Programs that remove it won't let me open the start menu by clicking in the lower left corner.
>>51247943
