What's stopping Apple from sending your fingerprints to NSA?
>>
They have mine anyway.

Never been arrested? Pussy
>>
who cares?

thats like asking what is stopping a bank from sending the NSA your social security number
>>
>>51236410
NSA isn't interested in your SSN. If Google, Apple and any other major companies send fingerprints towards NSA they can literally track 80% of the people in the world.
>>
>>51236384
The hardware that stores and processes the prints.
>>
>>51236435
how? who is fucking going around taking fingerprint dustings every fucking day?

what is wrong with your brain?
>>
>>51236435
Because 80% of the population uses a fucking fingerprint reader...
>>
>>51236384
Nothing, they probably already do in exchange for industrial espionage on Samsung.
>>
>he used his fingerprint reader again, now we have his fingerprint

>he used his fingerprint reader again, now we have his fingerprint

>if he commits a crime, we'll have his fingerprint to compare to!

They can have my fingerprints if they want them, they cant do shit with them unless I commit a crime, and if you're arrested they take your prints anyway!
>>
>>51236459
Not yet, but in near future it might. Despite that NSA would now have access to more people across the world.

>>51236454
Apple / Google matches your fingerprint with your identity and sends it towards NSA.
There, now they know anything and everything about you and can track you anytime.
>>
>>51236509
How? You need to actually explain this instead of thinking I am going to play along trying to fit in. Your fingerprint does nothing to help them fucking track you 'anytime'.
>>
>>51236509
Suddenly a fingerprint allows the NSA to track you? What? Are you fucking retarded?
>>
>>51236509
You're more likely to be tracked from the very cellphone you're using or CCTV, not some stupid fingerprint. God you're a moron.
>>
>>51236384
What's stopping them?

Primarily the fact that I'm not a good goy who buys apple's shit.
>>
the fact that I don't own an apple phone, also this
>>51236404
>>51236404
Obongo already has my fingerprints.
>>
Most states now require you to give your thumb prints in order to get ID's or driver's license's. Apple or Google doing it is a moot point.
>>
>>51236384
what's the NSA going to do with my fucking fingerprints? Hack my bank account and steal all my money?
>>
>>51236384
The government already has my fingerprints from when I got my ID.
>>
>>51236532

No, moron. The phone tracks you. The fingerprint just confirms your identity. They do this kind of tracking without a fingerprint anyway. In Pakistan and Afghanistan, they routinely do "targeted killing" based on metadata alone, so there isn't any reason for them to even need to confirm your identity. Call, walk beside, or otherwise interact with the wrong person? Your on the list now under their "Co-traveller Program."
>>
Lets assume the government is malicious and acts in bad faith

What can they do with my fingerprint that that cant with the Satellite connect tracking device I keep in my pocket?
>>
>>51236756
Confirm your identity
>>
>>51236764
I had to give my name to and show ID to my provider. So my phone is already tied to my name.

I dont understand why they would this information on top.
>>
>>51236808
That won't confirm your identity.

Anyone can take your phone and it can be traced, but there's no confirmation it's >you< that's carrying it.
Until you unlock it with your fingerprints of course.
>>
>>51236756

>let's assume the government is malicious and acts in bad faith

The MSF in Kunduz would agree with this assumption.
>>
>>51236732
Where the fuck are they getting this fingerprint from, to compare yours against?

Everyones on a fucking list, get over yourself. You're not special because you're on a "big boyz imageboard" and "speak out against the government".

I work in this field; fucking no one cares. We have a lot more other national security interests to care about, other than amassing some stupid fucking fingerprint database for domestic issues. That's the FagBI's job, and quite frankly, they suck at it.
>>
>>51236384
Their privacy policy.
>>
>>51236949

>I work in this field

how do you live with yourself?
>>
>>51236867
this, its an easy way to throw cases out of court

also if you use a pin/pass, the US cannot force you to give it over, they can if you are using biometrics, because "they already have access to it"
>>
>>51236987
probably by accepting reality
>>
>>51236384
Because the fingerprint is stored locally on the chip and cannot be externally accessed?
>>
>>51236949
>>51237035

>We have a lot more other national security interests to care about,

You guys literally flag and label every visitor to LinuxJournal.com as an "extremist".

Your motto is "COLLECT IT ALL," not "collect enough to stop the terrrorists." You guys have somehow contorted "relevant information" into "every piece of information."

Despite all of your efforts, mass surveillance has stopped exactly ZERO terrorists.

This is the reality.
>>
Protip: iPhone fingerprints are stored on the hardware
Protip2: the NSA, being a federal institution, already has your fingerprints if you were born in the US
>>
>>51236509
>but in the near future it might

fucking kek, watching sheltered first world millennials whine about being oppressed by their Hollywood fantasies is hilarious

half of the fucking world barely has the infrastructure let alone the money to afford shitty biometric gimmicks
>>
>>51236384
>not using your mushroom stamp as your ID.
>>
>>51237032

>an easy case to throw out of court

You don't get it. This is how they would use it: they would illegally collect enough information to confirm it was you, then pass the information off to the FBI, IRS, DEA, etc and tell them to figure out a way to investigate you using their own resources. It's done everyday

>>
>>51237064
I fucking wish I was one of them, a government job would be sweet.

Grats actually reading posts before you emotionally fling shit at them though, my redpilled friend. I really hope you dumb reactionary faggots are the first in the gas chamber when the happening comes.
>>
>>51237072

It would be trivial for Apple to access the fingerprints stored on your device.

There is no massive database of fingerprints of all citizens. Only people who have been arrested or hired by the government have their fingerprints in a database.
>>
>>51237064
>exactly ZERO terrorists.
i'm as anti dragnet as you

but RSA wasnt declassified for years
stingrays are still "magical unspoken technology"

i;m not saying its prevented a lot
but i'm sure its prevented a few

also
>make world think were fucking retarded
>more kingpins try to fly here and get busted
>media doesnt speak of it so the world still thinks were retarded

i'm so tinfoilf, i think they actually help some days
>>
>>51237064
Stop being an armchair specialist, it fucking hurts me to read your post.

Terrorism is a lot like guerilla warfare. We have NO FUCKING IDEA who is who. Online, you cannot easily discern who is a terrorist or who isn't based on their actions. They don't fucking tag each packet they send with 'HEY I'M A TERORRIST'. You need to collect it all in order to better understand what's going on.

Fuck. I hate being viewed as the boogeyman. Everyone I work with genuinely works to keep the homeland safe. Why do we save what we collect? Because we, currently, when collecting, don't know what we're looking for. But when we find something interesting, we can cross reference it against all of our other shit.

Let me repeat: If it isn't directly related to the task on hand, we do NOT give a shit about the data collection. We cannot throw it away, though, since we don't know what is interesting, and what isn't, until we get to that point. At which point, we can then go back and scan the past data for more evidence.
>>
>>51237121

You literally said you "worked in the industry." In this context the only relevant industry is the surveillance apparatus. Why would you bother telling us about your job as a web designer in this thread?
>>
>>51236808
The government can just ask the damn provider for my info.
My fingerprints in a vacuum do not confirm my identity. I really dont grasp what is gained by this information.
>>
>>51237165
Idiot, I'm not >>51237121. >>51237163 is me.
>>
>>51237163
>WE HAVE TO COLLECT EVERYTHING MANG!
So how many terrorists have your efforts stopped?
How many times did your information and your information alone (meaning not info handed over by informants and the like) actually result in the discovery of a terrorist plot?
>>

http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/08/23/bloomberg_report_nsa_employees_have_deliberately_abused_their_power.html

Abuse happens all the time. The point is that all of this is done in secret with practically no oversight.

What in the fuck does this have to do with terrorism:

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130909/04383424450/latest-leak-shows-nsa-engaging-economic-espionage-not-fighting-terrorism.shtml

What does wiretapping world leaders have to do with stopping terrorists? Is Merkel a terrorist?
>>
>>51237224

>>
>>51237224
You think we only work to find terrorists? That, the only issue this world currently faces is terrorism? Get real.
>>
>>51237236
>Abuse happens all the time

Abuse happens anywhere. It does not "happen all the time", in the same way plane crashes do not "happen all the time". It's when it actually does happen, you hear about it, and it's popularized and makes it seem often.
>>
>>51237239

The Pakistani government, who had been protecting him for the last 5 years gave him up:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/12/magazine/the-detail-in-seymour-hershs-bin-laden-story-that-rings-true.html

>>51237250

Terrorism is the guise underwhich you are conducting this surveillance. If you have another target, you should be honest about it. Dragnet surveillance shouldn't be used to further the economic interests of the US in the same way that war shouldn't.

> In addition, a May 2012 internal NSA audit counted 2,776 incidents in the preceding 12 months of unauthorized collection, storage, access to or distribution of legally protected communications.

You specifically mentioned terrorism in your post. That's why I asked about it. Nice attempt at deflection.
>>
>>51237325
> If you have another target, you should be honest about it

Are you aware of how spying works?

>HEY JOHN, BUDDY BOY, WE'RE GONNA SPY ON YOU NOW AHAHAHA THAT GUY ON 4CHAN TOLD WE NEED TO TELL EVERYONE WHO ARE TARGETS ARE.

We don't even know who future targets might be. Past data allows us to correlate current actions against past to build a pattern.
>>
>>51237187
Yes, the phone is registered to you, but they cannot tell with GPS if it's in your or somebody else's possession. Useless you use your fingerprint to use it, however
>>
>>51236384
Are finger prints even interesting? What they want to know is things like emails you send, website you browse, and things like that.
>>
Also, fuckwads, fingerprints have more possible collisions than your pattern in which you conduct yourself online.

We don't give a fuck about fingerprints.

Let me just whip it out while on a train.
>>
>>51237403

>We don't even know who future targets might be.

The problem is that they're spying on the entire world and then selecting their targets.

The problem is that the government is asking citizens to surrender our civil rights in order to protect us from terrorism, when they're really using the information to go after tax fraud and petty drug dealers. The patriot act was meant to give the government extraordinary powers in an extraordinary time. Now its considered the norm.
>>
>>51237403
>talking about the types of people you wish to spy on is the same as naming specific targets
You really aren't very good at this whole arguing thing. If your targets are legitimate nobody is going to have a problem (or be surprised) if you say you're on the lookout for embedded foreign spies or drug cartel members.

That never happened to me. Unfortunately I had to give up my prints for my current job. I also got fingerprinted by Japanese customs and I'm sure they have no problem sharing with the US government.

>>
>>51238523
you've got some delusions of grandeur about what crime is. Most crimes are solved without fingerprints ever even being taken, or remain unsolved without fingerprints being able to make any difference.

The NSA having a guy's fingerprint wont stop that guy from being able to strong-arm rob some dude in NYC of his phone, or hold him at knife-point to get his wallet.

You're really the one who's a Home-Alone tier buffoon
