I mainly like the phone for the software, but the camera is comparable with the best phones out there too, which is a huge bonus for a 'pure' phone. It was reasonably cheap too, in line with my moto X 2014 while having 64 gigs instead of 16 with way better hardware.

You get a lot of the front glass shattering if you drop it or whatever but it is rarely across the entire screen in that sort of pattern unless there's a uniform impact across the screen.
I would be inclined to believe it is more user error jumping on the back of the poor durability reviews.
