So, /g/,
I'm out looking for a new drawing tablet... but I am not exactly sure what I should be looking for.
I'm currently eyeing the Wacom Intuos Art in Medium size, but it seems a tad pricey. On the other hand, the smalls seem too small.
Any suggestions, opinions, experiences, or recommendations?

Hmm... And it's actually good quality, or just good value?

what's the catch here? There has to be something wrong with it compared to a wacom... the specs seem exaggerated

which of these is the most linux compatible?
>>
>>51234429
As far as I can see, it's pretty much identical to the Intuos Art in the OP, though.

Just slightly different casing...
>>
>>51234524
Needs a battery, UClogic drivers suck ass.
>>
>>51234637
does wacom play nice with linux?
>>
>>51234524
Battery powered pen. That sucks.
>>
>>51234625
Wacom only has 3 lines currently.

Intuos which the Bamboo evolved into.

Intuos Pro which the Original Intuos evolved into.

Cintiq where you pay out the ass for uncontested tablet displays.

I personally settled on using an Intuos 4 M after buying a bunch of different tablets and getting rid of them.

Go with the regular intuos if you're just doodling, Either new or second hand is fine as they hold their value quite well compared to anything else.
>>
>>51234653
It seems there are some open source / experimental driver packages out there.
>>
>>51234694
So... Intuos Art and Intuos Pen&Touch is actually the same tablet.

Good to know. But the price of a medium is still pretty steep at £130... I guess that's just what these things cost :c
>>
>>51234738
You don't need the Touch, get the model without the touch, save a few bux.
>>
>>51234591
They are all compatible with Linux

https://digimend.github.io

Don't forget to use Krtita too.
>>
>>51234762
Well... they both have touch :/

And I'd never use that. I just need a reliable, precise and durable tablet.

Krita*

The best in free drawing software.

Im looking into buying this as a cheap alternative for school and drawing. $350. wacom 2 in 1 tablets are very expensive and have a 3 hour battery life anyway. Anyone know any other cheap chinese alternative 2in1 tablet for drawing.

Um yeah that's the cheapest it's going to get that still uses Wacom Tech.
Just be aware that it's neutered 1024 lvl with no pen tilt like the Thinkpads and Samsungs.

tilt is overrated desu

>>51234967
unless you're using spray guns and doing other shit the average doodler doesn't use.

I hope that their OSX development kickstarter will be successful if they decide to do it.

https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=128378&sid=7613f4467df5943091bd739ae2198d09

I don't use OSX but a good OSX port will mean more popularity from the artist community which will mean more money going to their regular yearly kickstarters.

>>51234854
Here's a better example of art done in Krita

>>51234840
Spend about $100 more for the atom surface pro 3. It should be around $450 after student discount.

You don't want to be spending that much money for chink quality shit with shit customer support if you need to return it for whatever reason.

Depends on what you are doing. Like the other guy said, if you don't need a very precise replication of a pen, go with the Intuos. If you want to paint properly, get Pro.
I still have the Intuos 5 M I got two years ago (now re-branded Intuos Pro). Had Intuos 3 before that. The tablet is pretty much everything you would want from a device that let's you paint digitally. High precision, good pressure and angle recognition. I use it mainly for 3d model texturing and some hand-painted stuff. But I also make some drawings every once in a while.
Main concerns - sometimes after installing the driver on the new PC, it doesn't work properly. Like forgetting the settings for multiple screens. So you have to find a version that works well for you and then just not update the drivers.
Also, now touch functionality is obligatory in the Pro tablets. It's very annoying when doing actual work, so I always switch it off.

I didn't like Cintiqs very much. It's hard to find a position where it's comfortable to work with them. I could never calibrate them well enough for the cursor to be exactly at the point I am pressing as well.
And because of the size, your arm gets tired very fast. I dunno, I guess if you spend every day using it then you become accustomed to it.
Still, not worth the money, unless you do illustration for a living.

>>51235080
Only thing that has tilt is the Intuos Pro.

>>51235064
Surface 3 uses UClogic, and a battery, the Atom is also slower than the Core M in the Cube i7

>>51235091
My Intuos 4 will virtually last forever as long as I don't break the main digitalizer, Wacom will still sell replaceable surface sheets, and nibs well into the future.
As for the Cintiqs, they are the standard for the older artists moving from analog pen/paper and couldn't get used to looking somewhere else than where their hands are, the people that do art professionally will be able to drop down the investment for an improvement to their workflow.

>>51235064
less powerful 2gb of ram plus the shitty keyboard pisses me off.
>>
>>51233979
Apple iPad Pro is the only reasonable choice.
