I'm not an autistic neckbeard of faggoty hipster content creator
>>
I want to go to one. I've looked into it and the closest one is in a city an hour away.
>>
because they aren't really about technology, rather about gadgets and the latest Cool New Accessories for your Raspberry Pi (Hey can you install linux on my raspberry pi I don't know how)
>>
I'd love to visit some around but the closest one I found is about 400km away.

Also some-assembly-required (at most) Quadcopters, bragging, and consumerism

I live in the middle of nowhere. I have to use satellites to shitpost here.

"brogrammer" is an SJW term
>>
>>51228599
Brogrammer was a thing before SJWs picked it up.
>>
>>51228160
No

There's a Google Campus near me. One of my teachers hangs out there with his startup employees. Are they the same sort of thing?
>>
because one in my city was advertised on /g/ by fedora wearing autismo with thinkpad full of cringe stickers. also weeb and faggot.

extreme social anxiety, and no drugs to help.

don't feel like drinking before going either.
>>
>>51227878
what the actual fuck is a hackerspace and why would I want to go to one? Are they using the term 'hacker' in some new hipster way?
>>
>>51230757

They have a running record of stealing good words that would have otherwise been fun to use and tacking a social agenda to them.

"Shitlord" was a good one, always gave me a chuckle before its current semantic definition. Fuckboy was a neat one too.
>>
I don't like places that are called "spaces."
>>
>>51231495
what did fuckboy get changed to? I thought it just meant someone who acted like a bitch.
>>
>>51227878
Hackerspaces are social clubs and I didn't become a hacker to make friends. A typical night is people drinking and fucking around with 3D printers and using arduinos to blink lights. I need be alone or around people acting professionally when I work so I can focus and get shit done. Membership fees aren't appealing either.
>>
>>51231462
Think of a Safe Space but with tech.

it's some well light, open spaced area with wooden desks and chairs with a minimalist pot plant and a bunch of these guys sitting around, drinking lattes talking about the latest js framework and the new "web app" they just launched which runs on wordpress.

THIS FUCKING GUY

Seriously fuck him!

:(
>>

They're using the term hacker the way it was used in the 70s: People getting their Altair 8800 to play music, finding ways to distort video signals, etc. Modern hackerspaces do different things, but the same principle applies. It wasn't until the 80s and 90s that hacker implied illegal activity.

Every hackerspace has a perpetual war going on between people who want to hang on to the word hacker and people who think they should give up and replace it with "maker".
>>
>>51231877
Do you look like him?

Then I suggest a make over.

/g/ approve gear is a t-shirt with cargo pants. Also let your hair grow and don't do that fucking "50's" hair style. If you live in a colder climate then wear a trench coat.
>>
>>51227878
It's full of companies' "donated" junk from 1996
>>
>>51231906
nah I don't look like that at all
>>
>>51231785
b-but anon...

how're you gonna deploy a website these days? You can't expect me to learn PHP
>>
Because it doesn't have any tools that would actually warrant its existence. Namely, I'd visit if it had a high-power (300W+), high current (30A+) electronic DC load, bench DMM with logging capabilities, a milliohmeter and a high quality LCR meter.
>>
it's fucking expensive and i'm a broke college student
also i don't think they actually have many tools
>>
What the fuck is a hackerspace?
>>
>>51227886
100% thread kill
>>
>>51232404
learn to ignore them anon, then a semblance of a conversation can take place.
>>
>>51227878
I'm highly intimidated by hipsters and people who are, in general, smarter than me. Also, I can't into programming and general hardware hacking.
>>
>>51228160
Fuck does that look shit. This should be people doing real science and technology with real math and careful planning and organization, and instead it's people playing around with 3D printers and cardboard robot heads.
>>
>>51227878
>my local hacker space
I don't HAVE a local hacker space.

>They're using the term hacker the way it was used in the 70s
No they aren't. The most important quality of a hacker is their ABILITY. Hackers were certainly a subculture based on freedom and cool toys, but they were also academics. They worked at the very forefront of technology. They published papers and took careful notes.

These people aren't like that. They screw around with 3D printers and Javascript. They don't write proofs or develop brilliant new algorithms. They're hobbyists, not hackers.
