I don't know alot about networking so please help /g/.
I use Huhges Net satellite internet and I'm only getting 5 megs when I should be getting 60 megs. I thought having a somewhat decent router would help but I am one step away from calling them. Is there anything I can do to fix this without having to call them? I'm tired of Hulu and Netflix buffering.
Pic related is my router
Also I kinda live out there, in the outer parts of the city.

1 MB = 8 Mb
Probably confusing your units, son.
I'm guessing you didn't sign an SLA, did you?

check your units, your cables, your service, your autism, etc
>I use Huhges Net satellite internet
>>51221388
don't forget your priviledge
>>51221367
This. You can do literally nothing except cancel your service if you haven't negotiated a level of service - they don't give a fuck.
>>51221366
Was just about to say this. Coincidentally, 60 Mbps is around 8 MBps.

He's probably not confusing his units.
If Hulu and Netflix are buffering, then his connection is beyond shit.
5MB/s is goddamn blazing fast for one 1080p video stream.
He probably really does mean 5Mbps, which is ~600KB/s

Also most companies say up to 60Mbps that means they can give you any speed they fucking want
>>51224680
This is why you get an SLA.
>Have ok internet
>Company gets bought out
>Price doubles
>Speed cut in half
>Reliability out the window
>$70+ for this shit.
Fuck you CenturyLink

That shit would have me building pipe bombs.
>>51221339
op look at this
>>51222982
My internet provider is 60Mbps, and I get around 5MBps, and at max 8MBps.
>>51224978
Mine is 30Mbps and I consistently get 4-4.8MBps
>>51221339
Hughes Net is shit tier. If you are in an area which can only be served by a satellite connection, for decent speed you'll have to spend a lot and go with someone like http://www.groundcontrol.com/Home_Office.htm
so speedtest thread?
>>51225032
yes please
>>51221367
I know what SLA means but can individuals( not business) do that?
>>51224680
Isn't there some laws (depending on which country you are in) that they have to deliver at least 50% of it? At least there is where I live
You're fucked. This is why they say "up to".
This jewishness is legal. Pay up, goy.
>>51221339
Speaking from experience, Hughes Net is a fucking lying piece of shit. They pulled the same crap with us. Just bite the bullet and switch companies.
>>51225001
Mine probably throttles me cause I torrent shit 24/7 but yeah

First thing you should do is plug your modem directly into your PC to speedtest.
Still slow? Is there other services on your PC using the bandwidth?
No? Grats your ISP is shit. Satellite internet sucks.

Have you considered upgrading to dialup?
>ITT people don't know the difference between megabits and megabytes.
8 Mbps = 1 MB/s
>>51221339
They don't say "UP TO 60" in their advertising by accident.
OP is it true they limit your daily bandwidth? what do you pay a month?
my isp is a radio connection and they are horrible people, just awful.
>tfw dls is just across the street but i can't get it
On Business because I can't deal with data caps. Also the only alternative is Frontier with an astounding 30Mbps.
I get 170Mbps down but wifi is kinda shit in the bedroom.
Guess you should have read the reviews.
