Looking for a media player that..well just werks. One that has native support for just about every major codec and format out there as well as an easy-to-understand GUI.
I tried MPV, works fine just no UI.
Fucking Rhythmbox is shit.
Tried using Banshee, seems nice but it didn't have any support ffor any of the formats I had.
Help me /g/. I see all of you with nice ricey desktops maybe you can point me in the direction of a nice media player.

MadVR is GOAT. It's got some neuro prediction shit with like 256 brains that analyzes the pictures and redraw it 4x the resolution then downscales it to your native res for maximum clarity. Pretty sure each scaling have 256 brains so it's like 1000 different brains working together or some shit to draw each individual frame for your stupid ass to enjoy.

It runs smoothly on my netbook, where mplayer lags and desyncs sound & video on simple series rips(ettv). With smplayer+mpv I can view 720 yify(don't be harsh) without problem.

MPC-HC and Potplayer for 1080p.
PP was crashing on me but I think (I hope) i fixed it changing the decoder from the internal one to LAV.
It really is a good player but the down side of it is if you hit an issue or hiccup finding a solution is near impossible and zero contact with the developer. They at least release beta builds regularly.
I should update my MPC though I'm afraid I might it might undo all my shit.

Yes, you could filter your videos with avisynth, apply all the stuff you want (SVP-like motion with MVTools, NNEDI3, etc.) and encode the resulting file to something good like CRF 20 h264
But it takes a long ass time, it takes a shitload of space, and the tools available to do it are worse than the ones in the current renderers

Other than that, use what they use, avisynth/vapoursynth, to upscale your shit. It would be pretty nice if mpv had the ability to encode with GLSL shaders, but keep in mind that texture upload is slow as fuck. I guess this is where HSA APUs would be pretty damn rad.
Is there any video player for Android that dithers 10-bit video properly, i.e. for which 10-bit does not degrade quality?
10-bit video currently makes no sense at all. The lack of dithering in e.g. MX Player means the very expensive 10-bit profiles actually produce lower quality and worse banding than 8-bit. Yet, certain scenes release exclusively in inferior 10-bit even for 720p.
The adage "you don't need a 10-bit display to benefit from 10-bit encoding" assumes dithering, dithering even devices powerful enough to decode 10-bit do not have. Without it, 10-bit actually degrades quality. Only sufficiently powerful PCs benefit from 10-bit, while everyone else loses, and those PCs are powerful enough to run dedicated debanding filters anyway.
