How would I check if a second hand micro SD is fake?
>>
Copy a 1.99GB file on it and try to read it back.

There is no fake sd cards.
All sd cards store data as described in the sd card standard.

yes, yes, good goy. that's it.

You can check the manufacturer code by issuing identification commands over SPI or SD bus.

You would need special hardware or really old PCI SD card readers since USB-based SD card readers will drop this information and pass on the manufacturer of the SD card reader itself to the computer.

it will likely break. had a 16GB "sandisk". after being filled with music and being rarely used the thing just died within 1y.

the price wasnt even so good, so i guess you have to find a trustworthy seller. in germany you are not even safe on amazon as they usually use other resellers. the big electronics stores are safe though.

run that and test it. i recently bought some cheap 128GB usb drives on ebay. one only had 9GB useable space and the other was like 15GB or so. it would let you write larger amounts of data to it (sometimes all 128GB) but you couldn't read it back. easy way to lose precious data.

this, only real answer in the thread.

run it for 10-20mins, if it writes and then reads correctly and doesn't dismount itself, its the real deal

it's not like you didn't ask for it...

OP here. Thanks, I ran a quick a quick search for a n open source alternative and found something called F3. I'm not near my PC right now so I'll check it out when I can.

Haha, yeah I guess a cheapfag like me fell for the cheap shit scam, although to be fair I did buy it from a reputable UK second hand electronics store (CEX). So I wasn't expecting to be looking for whether or not it could be fake when it started playing up.

There's no way to find out short of copying a certain amount of data on then trying to read it off.
