What's the best item for web-surfing that I can recommend to my tech-illiterate grandma /g/? She doesn't know the first thing about computers; so I want it to be as idiot-proof as possible.
I was thinking a Toshiba Chromebook 2 - 2015 edition.

ipad
Sounds like a good choice.

No grandma.
I told you it's 7-6 Monday thru Saturday.
We got my Gran an iPad and she has been fine with it.
Set them up on how to use Wikipedia and Google. iPlayer was also another big one (in the UK)
No major problems. I would not use an iPad myself, but as an idiot proof device, they are the way to go.

>keyboard on touchscreen without haptic feedback
>auto-completion
I don't think so.

I would think old people to be more comfortable with keyboards rather than touchscreens. After all, they did have typewriters back in the day.
Look into a program called "eldy".
It's an overlay that, as far as they need be concerned, turns a computer into an easy to use email/website/pictures machine.

He could just get an ipad in that case.
