Hey /g/, just got an older laptop, its a Toshiba Satellite with a dead harddrive. I am wondering if it is worth getting a 120GB SSD or a 7200rpm 500GBharddrive for around the same price. (http://www.ncix.com/detail/adata-sx900-2-5-128gb-ssd-f4-70079-1928.htm VS. http://www.ncix.com/detail/seagate-momentus-laptop-thin-2-5in-46-94660-1306.htm). Would an ssd in a fairly basic 4gb ram/basic ati gfx laptop make a difference at all, or would it simply be a waste of money.

get a cheap SSD for it, it will make the computer feel like a new machine for general use (not games or anything).
Also, an SSD is more suitable for a laptop because it won't take drop damage like a hard drive will, no moving parts.

thanks for the input, I was kind of leaning that way with that idea in mind. The laptop has a sata port on one side so I can always get an external if space becomes an issue, without dealing with esb 2 data speedsu

Like the other guy said, get an SSD. So worth it, also a 7200RPM laptop drive will vibrate the fuck out of your laptop. At least it did for my relatively thin dell. It fucking shook whatever desk it was on.

I never even thought about vibration, thanks for the info man.
Hard drive uses more battery power than SSD.
Hard drive runs hotter than SSD.
Hard drive is more susceptible to vibration and shock damage than SSD. This is crucially important considering it is a mobile computer.
Hard drive is a snail compared to SSD.
The choice is clear anon, don't fall for the poorfag SSD maymay crap. Join the 21st century.

I have purchased the Adata SSD. Thanks for the info guys.

Toshiba is garbage don't bother.
Hell get both! If the DVD drive doesn't have proprietary wizardry it probably haves smaller sata. And now you can do boot drive, and file/ data drive.

do you mean like, which would hold up to octopus attacks best?
anyone calling SSD's a meme is fucking retarded. It's a massive upgrade. Hard disks are about where floppy drives were in 2004. Still common, but on the way out and higher end systems have dropped them completely.

What ever happened to that diver? That octopus looks fuckin scary as hell.

but i like having storage space

> Asks if he should but a SSD

> Adata
Enjoy your erase cycles

Get a bunch of 2TB SSD's then.
>inb4 too expensive
Then it's not that you like storage space, it's that you like being a penny pinching jew
