For a while I figured I would be a web dev but whenever I look at job postings I just cringe at the words "SEO" and "content management", and when I see the trendy jquery-heavy websites that are so popular today I die a little inside.
So I really like Javascript so what language should I get into with that in mind? (As well as a job in the near future.)

Retard alert.

jquery bloats the webpage, in both load times and while current trends would say otherwise, in appearance; why would you need a playing movie as a background for a webpage? I may move towards the back end or yes, away from web all together.

I don't think you quite understand what JQuery is.

I know it's libraries of JavaScript, often larger than necessary, and often used for flashy webpages that really don't need to look like an art house film. I don't like it's implementation.

What are you even asking OP?

>You don't know what job you want when you're all growed up?

Talk to a career advisor. Get some work experience, see what suits/interests you.

>What languages should I learn?

Depends upon above.

There's always node.js, try that. You can do ANYTHING in node, just like in Java/C#/Python, but with a nice trendy community.

I very much like Jquery's improvements to DOM manipulation, but you can't deny that it is overweight for just DOM manipulation. Wanting to go without it is not inherenlty bad.

Besides, often Angular/Knockout/React/Polymer etc. are better choices

I will admit I am a little biased because I have been writing in jQuery for quite a while. It's becoming obsolete as new libraries are tossed out every day.
