Hi /g/, what is the best linux?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Gentoo is good for learning how Linux works.
Arch is for weaboos with too much time on their hands.
Personally I use Crunchbang Linux. I like it's simplicity and balance between form and function. It works well for the stuff that I do.

This copypasta never ceases to get a kek outta me, it's like the ultimate "that guy" post. You can almost taste stallman's butthurt through those words, as he tries to grasp for straws attempting to credit himself for the existence of Linux.

Crunchbang is dead.

Arch is for 12 year olds too lazy for gentoo. Unfortunately this board has been infested by them so now everyone here uses it.

linux-libre i suppose.
if you are asking about best GNU/Linux distro i would say debian testing. maybe gentoo.
>>
>>50775846
there was some screenfetch thread yesterday, about 60% used debian or debian based distributions.
>>
The definitive distro is called LFS (Linux from Scratch).
>>
Ubuntu is the most popular so go with that. Arch, Debian, Mint are also good. It depends what you use it for. If you're trying to be a l33t h4ck3r go with Gentoo

arch is 1337h4xx0r and AUR is insecure as hell. gentoo actually has a use. also debian is the most popular, not ubuntu, at least on 4chan. mint is way to outdated to recommend it to anyone at this point. maybe LMDE. and PPAs on Ubuntu may be nice sometimes but they are just as insecure as AUR. leaves us with debian, gentoo, slackware, LFS, SEL and RHEL.
