There have been huge advancements in battery technology. Just look at what Panasonic and Tesla have done in the past 3 years alone. 18650 lithium cells will go from 3300mah to 4000mah in ONE year. That is fucking insane.
Not to mention new chemistries for ebikes and other vehicles like LiFePO4 and LiCo.
Hell, even NiMH technology has gotten so good in the last decade that alkalines are basically irrelevant. You can get 2650mah AA rechargeables versus 1800mah traditional alkalines.

The macbook is about design. They built the laptop of the future, spent an insane amount of time engineering as much battery into it as possible and have a drop in SoC. They can literally reuse the design for the next 8 years by just dropping in skylake, cherrylake, etc. Wireless charging, ddr4, etc will all be built into the SoC.

It's not a shit battery though, unless you have links. I' not talking about battery life, btw I'm talking battery tech. When they drop in DDR4 in cherrylake that machine will easily get 15 hours. Plus wireless charging on skylake means that 'plugging it in' won't be hard at all.
I made the switch from alkaline to the Eneloop master race last year and it's been wonderful. They're not even expensive. Just a few recharges and it's all savings from there. Aside from rechargeability, they have the advantages of not leaking and having a much more stable voltage. My incandescent flashlights perform significantly better with Eneloops versus those "1.5 volt" alkalines which sag to half that before they're drained.

No. NiMH and chargers have become much better. See for example Eneloop or Turnigy batteries. The difference is huge even within AA / AAA cells.
Also, countless Lithium and other batteries got developed, with more probably coming.

10 minutes biking flat out at 200W would get you 10/60ths of 200Wh, so 33Wh. So running a desktop for, well, until you stop peddling, or a laptop for, say, 3 hours. It'd fully charge a phone though.

That simply isn't the case. A battery will take basically all the power you throw at it, within reason.
The only problem we have is battery density. We can store 10KWh in something the size of a go-cart, yes, but not in something that fits in your pocket.

Battery tech is making great strides.
Not exactly bleeding edge, but I swapped the stock battery out of my bike. A newish lithium one is 6lbs lighter, the estart works faster, and it'll hold a charge longer. In a few years I might be replacing it with something that only weighs half a pound.
