iOS is all native objective-c, provides much better performance.
Android is open source, ish while iOS is proprietary.
iOS is correctly ported to devices, has solid support, well tested timely updates.
Android has shipped major versions with bugs, it has a shitty HAL, that people don't know how to port or support and delayed or denies updates.

This. What apple has done so far is nothing short of brilliant. While I'm not a fan of their products, they've done a killer job at reinventing themselves--now selling status and class more than they are selling tech. Yes, the tech works well and they're beautiful and elegant, but they're no better than what else is in the market.
Android may be the better option because it allows you to truly own the device among another host of reasons, but the common girl or guy doesn't see that. They just want a phone that they can pick up and run with, and to say "I got an iphone."
