Can we just agree that when they update this thing to skylake it will be the single best truly portable laptop on the market in the 2500€ range?

>light and thin
>specced
>jus werks
>god tier virtualization with parallel
>god tier workflow (inb4 I only code on air gapped machines and never leave the keyboard to browse)
>never have driver issues
>default drive encryption
>socially accepted and apt to professional use
>running cooler because of skylake
>durable enough if you actually treat your tech well

Also, shills complaining about the lack of ports on the new macbook:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rezence_(wireless_charging_standard)
Hell, I haven't used a fucking pendrive for a year now, only for os reinstalling, but that's not required for a macbook. I even had a small gig in a pub to DJ and I was so lazy, I just uploaded my mp3s and an older copy of traktor to mega, downloaded them there, and that was it. It's fucking 2015. New cameras have wireless data sharing capatibilities already, I see no reason for pluggin fucking cables unless it's a DAC or a headphone

>best truly portable laptop on the market in the 2500€ range
Only apple sells laptops at this price
>>
>>47670821
>not buying Alienware
Stay poor.
>>
My Samsung tablet is starting to replace it. If the Macbook is any indication, Apple's just making their computers weaker. They don't have enough portable features in the Mac like ARM processor, NFC, fingerprint reader, capacitive touchscreen, Wacom penabled, or detachable keyboard.

The Macbook Pro used to be the world's best computer, but with the iMac getting a Retina display, that might be my next one. Why try to take the Mac outside when it's not made for it?

btw, fuck the Apple Watch! It doesn't do anything my iPhone can't already do.
>>
>>47670786
Doesn't wireless charging just make up for poor battery life? You shouldn't need to be near Rezence away from home.
>>
>>47670365
The key travel is abysmal.

The battery life is abysmal when you don't use apple applications.

Also, the laptops heat up like no tomorrow when you use non apple applications (like youtube).

So, no.
>>
>>47671049
>key travel
Lol
>battery life is abysmal
Got a source there?
>heat
Not with skylake
>>
>>47670876

>The Macbook Pro used to be the world's best computer

That has never been the case, ever, not even for a nanosecond.

YOU FUCKING LIE
>>
>>47671308
>Not with skylake
We don't even know that yet.
>>
>>47671424
Smaller components mean less heat, faglord
>>
Likely.
However, it is also likely that they will want the title of "thinnest business laptop" back and make it like 40% thinner, sacrificing battery life and performance.

Hopefully they won't, it's already a little bit too thin for my taste and they just released a new, ridiculously thin notebook. But the Macbook pro hasn't really had any new features since the retina upgrade and apple likes to innovate things that work well.
Just look at what they did to the Mac Pro.
>>
>>47671528
No, they just mean heat is concentrated to a smaller surface. Which is rendered moot because heatspreaders are, you know, doing their job and spreading heat to a larger surface. Heat improvement usually comes from other improvements that increase efficiency and ultimately require less voltage. Which you'd know if you ever overclocked a CPU or GPU. You can bump up clock speeds and shit, but heat increase comes from voltage increase. Less voltage pumped through the circuitry equals less heat. Same reason why we don't need heatspreaders at all on RAM anymore, each new generation brings less voltage requirements. Also, no need to insult people because of your general lack of knowledge.

I have a mid 2014 15 inch with 750m and its a great machine.

>implying you know anything about EE
Yep, you are a colossal nigger
>>
Meh I don't know about the new trackpad, the one now is fine and if you are still too dumb to figure out right clicking can be done on the right portion of the pad then you are just dumb.
>>
>>47671049
Most people don't realize unless you use something that can force the integrated gpu, shit like safari will switch to it when you hit any sort of web page that has media on it.
>>
>>47672586
rekt

>>47671614
smallest feature size is directly related to power consumption and speed. a simpler digital design implies less transistors and less transistors means less power dissipation.
>>
>>47671614
also,
>Less voltage pumped through the circuitry
if you knew anything about EE you wouldn't be using the phrase "voltage through". it's current through the circuity, and voltage across bro
>>
I thought they were going to release an update of it in February alongside the new Air but they didn't, I ended up getting an X250 instead (originally wanted the X1C but it was a lot more expensive at the time)
>>
>>47670365
I've never liked the port layouts of macbooks. And there's never enough USBs slots for my liking.
>>
>>47672950
They upped the specs on the 13", I was thinking the 15" will get updated when proper quad core CPUs come out. Possibly something ULV for >muh battery, the last core i ulv are performing enough if you don't gaym
>>
>>47672983
Yeah this generation was rather weird with ULV Intel processors in literally every laptop that wasn't huge.

The X250 performs the same as my X220's CPU did in benchmarks but at less than half the power consumption, so it's an upgrade in battery and silence.

Supposedly battery life of a rMBP with dedicated graphics is less than half of the iGPU model so gaymen when you want to/battery life when you don't is kinda out the window.

Adorama runs some great discounts on the rMBP a few months after it comes out
>>
>>47670365
What a beautiful machine.
>>
>>47670365

I regret buying the 15" one, I mainly got it because of the graphics card. It's a bit too big for some cluttered desks.

I'm going to trade it for the new 13" MBP.

Question -

Man walks into Apple store. He wants a laptop for light work & general browsing.

Tries the 13" MBP. Tries the new 12" MB.

What laptop would be most desirable to him? Would the new 12" blow him away because of the form factor? Idk because I haven't used one.
>>
>>47673285
>son, what are you doing
>productivity
>>
My rMBP overheats after a few minutes of any video I play, Wi-Fi preferences fuck up without giving you any errors.

I hate this shitty laptop, I regeret everything about it.
>>
>>47673285
I would suggest just getting a rMBP 13 or MBA 13
>>

>>

The MacBook is complete ass to type on, dunno how anyone would choose it over the air unless they only care about having a retardedly thin laptop.
>>
>>47675081
No. Thinkpads are the laptops that are fucking terrible to type on.
>>
>>47674889
My rmbp sucks as well. I've had to replace the screen twice (green stuck pixels), the right fan twice, the battery once and a few other things but I've forgotten.

Safari is the only browser I can use if I want my battery to last more than 6 hours and FF is just pure shit on OSX.

Safari is also, coincidently, the one application that eats ram like there's no tomorrow and pretty much the only application that causes OSX to crash at least once every two weeks or so.

The only saving grace for this stupid laptop is its god tier warranty. The service centre replaces everything, no questions asked.

I like OSX + Brew/Macports but OSX past 10.7.2 is stuck with Clang + no openssl support past the 10.8 sdk.

I will not be buying Apple again.
>>
>>47675346
I forgot to mention thermals.

The rmbp will hit 103C very easily when compiling anything of sigificance. For some reason the piece of shit will not let the fans go past 3k RPM till it hits this point. I have to manually put the fans at 6k RPM (max) to keep it at sane temps.

What do you guys use it for?

My rMBP kicks in the fans at around 65c and then maxes them out around 80c.

Which model and year?
>>
>>47670365
They goofded big time. They should have made this the new MBA, then done a slight redesign of the old MBA and called it the new MacBook. It's retarded to have a laptop called the air that's bigger than the 'vanilla' one. Like calling a 2 door ecomachine the Tungsten, and a 6 seater SUV the Helium.

rMBP 2012 15"
I actually use Macs Fan Control to only start ramping up my fan speed from 75 to 85c, 85c being 100%.
I hate noise.

Nigga, do you even into actual premium portables with lithium-magnesium alloy casing?
>>
>>47675828
I have the same model. What I have noticed is a gpu load will ramp the fans up properly but a cpu load won't. I've had this behaviour since as far back as I can remember.

Let me try an SMC reset and I'll get back to you.
>>
>>47673285
seriously, how would you justify spending so much on a machine you could use a 50 dollar pocket computer like the banana pi and other shitty alternaties for?
