I agree on the no choice polici of steve. I like android, but even i have trouble overlooking the models of some brands. 12 hours is not the case, i did like 2 hours research before i bought my first android. And once you get the hang of it, you can find sth that suits you in 15 minutes. People just loved the simplicity of apple and how they don't have to be IT interested just to make their phone function really well.
I see windows phone heading in this direction, simple UI, awesome phones (e.g. perform well with 512MB ram), even the low spec ones.
They need more apps tho, but basic stuff like IM is very well doable. I'm waiting for win 10 phones and then ill get a low tier one, just out of curiosity.

In my life I used all three of them, GNU/Linux, Windows and OSX. You might dislike Steve Jobs, Apple culture, the product design, the price or the mere fact that it is popular among people with di$posable income and a sexual life. No matter why you dislike it, OSX is fucking best.
It's a Unix system on top of a seamlessly integrated hardware. And thanks to Tim Cook who engineered Apple's supply chain back when he was COO, that hardware is top notch.
The only legitimate reason to prefer Windows over OSX is limited to MS Office, which is perhaps the greatest consumer software on the market right now.
Other than that everything boils down to tastes and/or being buttmad.
