OSX's file manager Finder is piece of shit. Is there anything more like Windows Explorer or Nautilus that I can download.

It's almost like you never even opened the finder preferences or customized the toolbar to fit your needs.

Also, the search works just fine. I haven't had a single issue once everything finished indexing.

Why the fuck does pressing Enter with a file selected rename it and not open it? Why can't I delete a file with the delete key? Why are folders not on top of the list?

Finder isn't that bad IMO, once you set some stuff up in its preferences, but there are things about it that I just do not know how to fix.
>>
>>47585178
>>47585178

> why the fuck does pressing enter with a file selected rename it?

Because thats the way it is

> Why can't I delete a file with the delete key?

because you delete it by pressing CMD + delete

> Why are folders not on top of the list?

right click -> organize by type

>Finder isn't that bad IMO, once you set some stuff up in its preferences, but there are things about it that I just do not know how to fix.

You are used to windows explorer and too lazy to learn how Finder works, just try changing the fucking settings yourself you fucking moron.
>>
>>47585069
you know how more tabs is called on windows? more windows. you know how path bar is called on windows? top bar. so it is the command bar. also colors are for kids, we have different icons if you can't read
>>
>>47585178
>Why the fuck does pressing Enter with a file selected rename it and not open it?

⌘+o or ⌘+down-arrow open files. Why? Because Mac has been doing it like that since 1984.

>Why can't I delete a file with the delete key?
⌘+delete
why? see above.

>Why are folders not on top of the list?
Because that doesn't make sense. However, you can install extensions hat sort it that way if you'd like.

>Finder isn't that bad IMO, once you set some stuff up in its preferences, but there are things about it that I just do not know how to fix.

name them.

also, try XtraFinder if you want sorting and myriad of other options.
>>
>>47585178
>Why are folders not on top of the list?
This is the most annoying "feature" of explorer.exe.
>>
>>47585221

Morons don't know about keybindings and cry that they can't go up a directory. I much prefer Finder to Windows Explorer.
>>
>>47585281
>⌘+o or ⌘+down-arrow open files.
That's retarded.
>⌘+delete
That is also retarded.

Both of those require you to take your hand of the mouse, slowing down workflow substantially.
>>
>>47585326
>>Marking the watched ones green
>>Changing the icon instead
lololo... my watched are blue and when I've backed them up, I change them to red which means I can just delete them after watching.

pro tip: if you go to Finder preferences, you can actually set names for colors. I've set Blue = Watched and Red=Delete Me

Finder's god-tier.
>>
>>47585281
Well the three things that I listed are what annoys me the most. Annoyances that can be fixed in Preferences include stuff like how search works and how it originally did not show the path.

>>47585294
I suppose this is a matter of personal preference. For me it just does not make sense to not have them on top, it fucks with my head and with the way I navigate.

Like take my anime girls folder, for example, 1017 items in it, plus a ton in subfolders. If I want a picture of a girl X, on stock OS X I would need to go all the way to X, instead of having the folder on top.

You'll probably suggest that I put unsorted images in a separate folder, so the original folder would just have folders for all the girls + an unsorted folder, and that's a valid solution, I suppose. Just not how I'd usually do things.
>>
>>47585178
Cause
>arrow keys -> change file selection
>arrow down+⌘ -> open directory / file
>arrow up+ ⌘ -> leave directory
Its actually quite neat, cause you can navigate between files without having to leave the arrow keys for pressing space or backspace. I've found renaming on one button quite useful, cause its something you surprisingly end up doing rather often.

>>47585178
You can delete with CMD+Backspace, I don't know the rationale behind this but I guess they rather make you push two buttons instead of having to quote you in case you pushed del accidentally.
>>
>>47585298
here is how to sort folders on top

open terminal
type...
$ cd /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj
$ sudo plutil -replace Folder -string " Folder" InfoPlist.strings
$ kill all Finder

replace English.lproj with whatever language you use

dumbfuck, Cmd means you're performing an action on something. Winshit is completely inconsistent. Enter runs, Delete deletes yet you need Ctl+c and Ctl+v instead of just using c and v. It's completely illogical and inconsistent.

And if you have your hand on a mouse, use the fucking mouse to delete/rename/move.

>>47585386
>just use the keyboard exclusively. It's faster than using a mouse.
Nope. Obviously Keyboard is better at some things, like pressing delete.
Keyboard+mouse: Select file with mouse, press del.
Keyboard only: Press arrow down, arrow down, arrow down, arrow down, arrow down, arrow right, press del.
mouse only: Select file, right click, click delete.

My favorite Finder features is this... say you're browsing a bunch of images... you can preview them with QuickLook and just use up/down arrow to view them... and then, you can select pics you want to group and just hit ⌘+Ctrl+n and it will make a new folder and move them into it and will immediately allow you to name it by putting it into rename mode. Such a huge timesaver... especially if you save any of the 4chin pics.
>>
>>47585361
>oth of those require you to take your hand of the mouse, slowing down workflow substantially.
no, they don't.
And if they do for you (meaning, you keep left hand on the left side of your keyboard) then so do enter and backspace.
>>
>>47585654
every Mac keyboard has two ⌘ keys. it's trivial to hit any key combo that involves ⌘ with one hand.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_key

It's just a meta key... every OS has and uses meta keys.
