Windows Vista is the most beautifully designed and practical OS there ever was. It is nigh impossible to provide evidence to the contrary. Yet, I invite you to submit your thoughts on this subject.
>>
>>47577854
It's a beautiful interface, sure. But the days of skeuomorphism are gone. The signal-to-noise ratio in Vista's interface is disastrous (same for Windows 7).
>>
>>47577890
Could you provide an example of what you think the future of GUI is?
>>
>>47577928
Windows, OS X, iOS and Android all moved to interfaces with minimal noise, focusing on efficiency in visual communication.
It's what the people who don't know design call "flat design". It's actually a trend all visual media follows towards visual efficiency over time. That's already the norm on magazine publications, for example. It's now starting on digital interfaces as well.
>>
>>47577991
>efficiency
Also known as making things difficult by removing any detail in icons and interfaces therefore making simple things a guessing game.

Example: removing a saved wireless network in windows 7
1. open the network centre
2. click manage saved networks
3. click the network
4. click delete
Easy peasy, logical steps.

Example: removing a saved wireless network in windows 8
1. search google because there aren't any visual clues on what to do (if no internet - goto x)
2. find out that the way to do it is to right click the network (if it isn't in range - goto x)
3. click forget
Confusing and unnatural steps.
x. you cannot do it, too bad.
>>
>>47578106
Maybe you're just retarded
>>
>>47577854
It'd be nice if I could get Aero Glass wtihout a watermark.
>>
>>47577890
What skeumorphism? There is practically none.
>>
I must agree, windows 8's interface is terrible from a usability standpoint and some things are just too hidden.IMHO.
Like in the first version of the metro interface you actually had to find the buttons to shut down windows.
>>
I know OP is trolling but fuck the haters I actually like Aero

Meh, 7's taskbar is way too "flat"

Vista's was just perfect, speaking of GUI.
The reason why I always used to have 7 with a Vista theme.

In a few years, all these current flat monocolor designs and icons will be laughed at.
>>
Flat design is just laziness. There is a difference between simple design and design made up of fucking uniform colored squares everywhere. Its like something designed by a five year old.

I agree that Vista was visually the best Windows so far.
>>

that happens to every trend after it passes (at least untill a revival), mr fucking nostradamus

Not really, not everything passes away. These "interfaces with minimal noise that focus on efficiency in visual communication" are particularly tasteless vomit. At least use fucking colors. COLORS motherfucker.

If you, or anyone like you, seemed capable of the self awareness required to rationally explain why, you wouldn't be seeing my opinion written above.

To date, no one, and I mean no one, has satisfactorily explained why Aero is negative or lacking. They have no explained their logic, experience, perception, nothin'. Zip. And your post is in the same vein, it's clutter. Please never post again until you can handle it.

Never thought I'd see a Windows Vista appreciation thread here in current times, what with all the people screaming muh win8 and muh OS x. Jesus.. Such fanboy faggots.

Been using vista since 2009 September, and never had to format or any other shit. Never had no OS issues software or hardware wise (Dell Studio 1555). 3 GB ram and 500gb hdd. P8600 core 2 duo, with ati radeon 4570 512mb dedicated gpu.

Still fucking works like new and can still play games and run Unity to make games. No problem.

The problem isn't subjectivity, it's something that is plainly subjective and makes no attempt to explain itself.

Anyone can try to claim that their subjective perception actually embodies something able to be called an objective truth. Evidence for this will become self evident to other observers even without explanation, because it is typically present in the source.

Purely subjective ideas, like experiences, require additionally information because any heuristic based approach or interpolation to derive what their experience is and why is more prone to error than the source simply explain itself on its own. These subjective ideas remain ambiguous until that happens.

ie, use your head, before someone decides they oughta bludgeon its contents out.

I will take a brute force approach to finding viable methods of removing its contents. A heuristic will be applied to evaluate any results as they are generated, because it is likely limited trials can be performed to verify results.

Commencing trials.

once vista service pack 2 hit it became really good. it fixed a lot of the problems with vista. bug wise and performance.

its gui also does indeed look really good. more modern than 8 and 7.

7 took the glass way to far and 8 went full flat chestness like a 8 year old boy.

only real improvement of 7 over vista was slightly less resources being used and some improvements to the way uac behaved. oh and some additions to the start menu + panel. that was it.

vista would of been better if microsoft just waited six months - year to release it. if they did shipped it at its service pack 1 stage and gave hardware manufactures more time to release stable drivers for it vista wouldn't have had such a terrible launch. i remember hearing that 30% of BSOD on vista where caused by graphic drivers and the majority of those graphic driver related BSOD where cause by nvidia drivers.

This might be a b8, but if you have only a very basic understanding of aesthetic design, you know that vista is still the best. It looks so fucking coherent with, every part of it looks like if it was designed as a whole, not like fucking wango 7 with too much cheapo transparency and incoherent design everywhere. Vista easily beats osx too easily (I'm typing this on a 2014 15.4 retina macbook pro)
>>
>>47578808

i seriously can never tell if vista/7/kde/gnome/etc people actually think this or if it is really elaborate trolling. i mean i know that they are popular, but i thought that was because it was easy to understand. i didnt think people actually thought this ugly shit looked good. it is pretty much everything you claim to love inversed and anally raped. it is the absolute worst design. windows 7 was even an improvement over vista is how shitty it looked. vista is plagued with nonmatching everything, gradiants everywhere, bubble buttons and jaggies but nobody gives a shit but me.

also having data usage estimate right there is kinda interesting, and when you go to the Task Manager's App history view and choose "Show history for all processes" option, it's just GOAT.

Aero was pretty, but that's it.
From a technical standpoint, it was terrible.
>compiz ripoff on everything except wobbly windows
>high resource usage
>prone to crashing thanks in part to bad drivers, but also bad implementation
>put a frame limit on GUI operations, causing background workers to stop and wait for ui updates to complete. Most evident in file copy dialogues, where file transfers were bottlenecked by the GPU
>compositing broke numerous overlay technologies in use on xp and earlier (just like metro!)
The metro flat design language is actually much better, Microsoft just sucks hard at making accessible GUIs.

How the fuck is that logical?
Is there a cue to make you think that? No.
Is that how you typically delete files, and other settings in Windows? No.
It is undocumented and illogical.

Windows 8 is to intuitive as North Korea is democratic. It will claim to be until its blue in the face, but it is almost the polar opposite.
