I have had Arch on my thinkpad for more than two years and have no beefs with it but since I'm on my new Skylake fast and snappy Desktop now I wanted something that looks nice out of the box and doesn't need too much work on it since I'll mainly be using Windows on this machine for games.

Not sure if ask this here or in the stupid questions thread, but here it goes anyway: got and old computer (circa 2002 AMD K7, 640 MB of RAM) with windows XP and and an very outdated Mint version (Glorya, I guess). Downloaded newest Lubuntu Iso, "burned" image to USB stick with rufus under windows and tried to make comp boot from there, but to no avail.
Tried the very same stick on a friends comp (Some Athlon x2 build) and it boot Lubuntu as expected.
Tried again but with Puppy (Slacko) burned in the same stick, but still, won't boot.
Im mostly sure the old computer can boot from USB, as it shows the stick listed when I access the boot menu during post.
Question is: is this computer too old for current Linux distros, even those supposed to be lightweight?

A few questions:
1) What gtk and qt bloat do I need to make things look a little nicer on Debian with xfce?
2) Are we closing on the year of the Linux desktop? AMD going open source with their drivers, Valve pushing Vulkan, and NSA/Windows shifting their gears for advertisement and snooping are a few reasons. It still needs to somehow get on prebuilts if that market still exists with more and more people going for tablets and phones.

Has anyone got the issue in ubuntu 15.10 where stuff like terminal hotkey will be mapped to the wrong layout? I use colemak which means my t is on the f on a regular keyboard, but some times I still need to do ctrl alt f (aka ctrl alt t on qwerty) to get a terminal up.

In pretty much every case where sudo isn't automatically configured, you can't just add a user to sudo or wheel and expect it to work. Those lines are commented out in /etc/sudoers by default and have to be manually enabled.

Everything I find consists of people saying it's theoretically possible but nobody actually saying that they've done it.
There's quite a jump between having a PS2 and a MIPS Linux kernel and actually having that PS2 be running Linux.
As far as I know the PS2 can't boot random DVDs so I imagine there'd have to be some level of modification to the PS2 before I can just pop in a Debian disc and run the installer.

Vi is deprecated shit, and the full vim package is quite large so debian only installs vim.tiny by default.
vim.tiny doesn't have ANY documentation with it, meaning a new user could open it up and have no fucking clue how to save or quit properly.
Nano is minimal yet easily usable by anyone fortunate enough to have eyes in their head and fingers on their hands, so it's usually the default editor now.

When I installed my Arch for the first time it had a very nice, sleek font size and colour scheme for the tty.
After installing Xorg and KDE plasma 5, terminal emulators, some font packages etc. in one sitting, (I'm not sure which of those is causing htis) when I switch back to a tty the font is much bigger and it looks retarded.
How can I fix this? Is there an easy way to restore the default font?

I have this external hard drive that uses USB 3.0.
I have Linux Mint installed on my laptop and the laptop has only USB 2.0 ports.
When I plug the external in it starts up but doesn't mount.
I did some research while I was in class, and people said it was a driver issues fixed with a kernel update. (3.16 generic to 4.4 generic)
I updated to the latest kernel (AFAIK) and nothing.
It's not the most descriptive explanation, I know, but I have no idea what else to do.
