I'm a sys admin and I work with a decent amount of Indians. Most of them are really nice and decent at their job. Some are actually pretty good. And some are pretty bad.

So many Indians enter technical education because India does not have economic freedom on par with western world. A woman cannot readily make a career by following her whims and becoming a nurse or teacher. Hard labor jobs for men do not pay well. Tech fields provide financial security that is scarce elsewhere so they are desirable. Parents push children into these fields for this reason. One day India's economy will grow and people will not have to make career choices based entirely on income. Then social structures will become more like the west and you will see more Indians entering other fields.

People used to give a really big shit about the US. It was the land of milk and honey. People tried hard to learn english so they could get in on that. Now people are kind of lazy about it. Like maybe learning english is a good idea. Maybe.
