I'm a mac user, but this so much. Apple has always build the shittiest mouses in existence. I have no clue how they could assume people will like to use the magic mouse. Fortunately they also sell the magic trackpad, which is fucking great.

>>

>I have never used one, but have an opinion on it nevertheless
Sure, the shitty touchpads on Windows PCs are useless, but Apple's trackpads are fucking great and a lot better for 90% of all tasks (gaming being a notable only exception, but that's for children). I hardly need to move my hand, it's very precise (although granted, there are more precise optical mouses), there are gestures (which make a whole new workflow possible). It feels super natural, you get used to it super quickly.
>>
>>47161489
Not the other guy, but I never use the trackpad on my laptop. The red clitoris on Thinkpads are a godsend, better than any touchpad. The main reason being that I can keep my hands on the keyboard while I move the mouse. The keyboard and mouse essentially become one device.

I'm the kind of person that when I get something new and shiny, I can't wait for it to be damaged and scuffed. It shows that I truly own the item and that it's being put to good use.

Thinkpads and the 'ugly' style fits a similar purpose. I worry more about the hardware on the inside rather than the appearance on the outside. Because I don't give a fuck what people think unless they're thinking of the inside, not the outside.

I have a similar interest in human beings and animals. I don't give a fuck what you look like on the outside, as long as you're good on the inside.

Yes, musicians and professional audio engineers all use macs.

It's cause of core-audio and logic you dumbasses. Also Protools runs smoother on macs for some reason.
It won't ever happen that windows will make its own DAW cause their whole user base is about muh games as it seems. Sad
>>
>>47163441

>>
>>47163441
Using Logic and Pro Tools are the 'Industry Standards' ill agree (i use both of these myself)
But you can get equal performance out of using Cubase (which runs slightly better on Windows) or Sonar
I mean christ, i record and edit in Pro Tools, mix and use any plugins in Logic then take it into something like Reaper or Studio one for its easier workflow in its mastering suites.
Then lets not even start with then taking the finished tracks to Triumph to add track stop/starts and the codes to the tracks

If you use one piece of software and stick with trying to do everything in that one suite you're just limiting yourself,
Or you know- a 12-year-old that cant explain what a compressor does on his cracked version of fruity loops
>>
>>47163660
All that money spent... only gets a Logitech extreme 3D pro....
>>
>>47163898
>you can get equal performance with cubaseā„¢ for only 700$
>then add a powerful CPU which is needed to compensate for the shitty drivers latency of windows
you might as well get yourself a mac and not need the unwanted hassle
>it just twerks
>>
So, fellow macfags. How viable is installing windows onto a fast USB pen drive, e.g. Sandisk Extreme Pro

Official "windows to go" drives are extortionate (Roughly $300 for a 64gb one), so this seems like an affordable alternative.
>>
>>47163660
I want to cum on your setup.
>>
>>47164012
I know theres some latency because of the shit drivers, but ive never got a problem because most of my audio processing is sorted by the Saffire Mix Control ive got working with my Liquid 56

TBH, if youre serious enough to care about performance from your rig, you would only notice if you;
1. Record a LOT of audio (bands, orchestras, ensembles)
2. Make electronic music that needs a vast amount of layering (e.g. dubstep), but then again you'd go with something like Reason, followed by Cubase or Logic
3. Record everything at a high sample rate (rates above 48K) to compensate for time editing or dithering or whatever

And if youre doing any of those to a degree that high performance is needed, money isnt usually an object so its just a matter of what each person feels comfortable working with, since a baseline Mac Pro now will be able to handle any of above, and any windows machine at the same price will have hardware good enough to compensate
>>

>>
>>47164520
I'm a frustrated beginner who has to work with a shitty core2 duo processor and even shittier asio drivers for the scarlet. Even old powerbooks can get decent latency while I'm stuck with a bugged Ableton.
Can you actually get a non-buggy core audio with a hackintosh tho?

Try to get your head around Reaper instead of ableton, the highlights for ableton are based around live use and its layout dousnt translate well into other DAW's
Reaper needs a hell of a lot less processing power, and there are plenty of free plugins or cracked plugins you can get to give you plenty of instruments.
If you do want to use ableton to do stuff on then try a hackintosh, it should work better on OSX but it still might be prone to problems if you try any live performances on it!

lol look at this desperate macfag

> To add insult to injury, XPSP3 completely wiped the floor with both OSX systems, the low latency results clearly highlighting the huge variable between the cross platform scaling performance - with and without Hyperthreading, and also highlighted that HT was scaling extremely well on the Windows platform.
> The further we investigated the more we discovered that there are some concerning arbitration issues within the Apple implementation of EFI that go a lot deeper than the commonly know less than stellar EIST - Speedstepping implementation within OSX.
> This is where the C States come into play which are core hardware level routines within the CPU in relation to clocking and thermal control.
> The issues are at very low level, which is not being indicated by OSX's inbuilt metering- for what its worth- and is showing that Apple's EFI implementation is not handling the Intel thermal / clocking routines well at all. The end result is that the clock speeds are constantly being ramped up and down even under heavy load, which is severely effecting the scaling potential.
> ...
> The results are in no way conclusive in regards to overall performance for each respective operating system, obviously with the Steinberg product the performance on Windows is far superior on the current revisions.
