Most of the people I know in IT actually don't like it. They are frustrated (insert shit career) who couldn't find jobs in their fields or their parents didn't like their career choice.

It happened to me twice, first time was big corporate german company (big purple T). Although we were linux admins, we were forced to use windows laptops with putty and shitty ticket tool. Most of the people who went there did it because company invested fuckload of money into HR and management positions and they wanted to get those positions.
Second time I worked for big us corp, unix/linux admin, forced to use shared desktops with windows XP and their shitty tool which was fork of putty , it sucked because they took everybody, even people who just said that they are capable of installing windows and updating chrome got hired.
Now I am employed in small local webhosting company (about 30 people all toghether) and only people who have some skill and interest are hired. The salary is not great, actually it is lower than in big corporations but at least you are around people who do care about IT, optimatization of stuff and shit.

Well, I noticed a lot of my IT peers have this high expectation of believing that they will get a high paying job right after college/university. Ironically, IT is more like the combination of business and technology. In my opinion, IT CAN be a flexible career if you know how it works. The possibilities of implementing IT in the field of business is actually quite dynamic. However, if you are one of those guy who is not even interested in this field of career and just want to make quick buck, you simply won't make it.
