I wonder why it's 1200
>>
>>47077368
Because people will still buy it
>>
>>47077362
It will be the new air come Skylake and /g/ will be telling everyone to 'just buy it' cause it's the best like they did with the current air in 2013 and 2014
>>

>>
>>47077395
first thought when they announced it was 'im gonna buy the second generation of this so hard'
>>
>>47077409
And once the design change is subsidized this generation, the price will fall too. They put so much money into the battery design, keyboard, and display that they need to recoup those costs fast. Considering this SoC platform can be reused for skylake and cannonlake they will start making a ton of money by just swapping in new gen chips with wireless charging (skylake) and ddr4 (cannonlake)
>>
>>47077446
Then you up the front camera, improve Wi-Fi and improve the battery life. Then you make it slightly cheaper.

http://bgr.com/2015/03/16/macbook-release/

“There seems to be a general consensus that Core M equates slow, but clearly this is not the case. For some sustained workloads, yes, the 4.5 watt TDP limits how much performance you are going to get from the CPU, but for many tasks, especially short burst loads, the performance of the 5Y71 is very competitive, often outperforming the Haswell Core i5-4200U from last year’s Yoga 2 Pro. This says a tremendous amount about the Intel 14 nm process, because the IPC improvements of Broadwell vs Haswell are fairly limited. Clearly the CPU has quite a bit of headroom on the 14 nm process to keep the clock speeds up.”

It's starting to sound a lot like Apple's OS engineers were too incompetent to make a lightweight OS that runs on Apple's ARM and has multi-tasking (something like Windows RT). So instead they make a super expensive, lightweight Macbook that can run their desktop OS, which you can't do anything with because the CPU is useless with a huge desktop OS.

Sounds like Steve Jobs plan backfired when he wanted to simplify everything. Either that, or Apple is starting to lose the vision of Steve Jobs and don't know how to come up with any good anymore.

Well the kind of people who buy this shit aren't exactly the brightest sparks. Most consumers of this will spend 80% of their time at least just in safari. From that standpoint it makes sense for apple to shill them a product that can do that for as much time as possible, for as higher price as possible.
>>
>>47079792
So why are we talking about it? Why are so many review sites wasting their time talking about it if it's not geared to anyone reading about it?

>leaves this thread
>>
>>47079760
it was never intended to perform miracles you idiot.

Why do you autists insist on rating products based on tasks they were never intended to do?

For someone who has a dedicated desktop, or perhaps even a more powerful laptop, and is looking for something lightweight and mobile for internet/office work why is this such a bad choice? Because you know, that is what its intended use is.

If you're not interested in, or can't justify the price of this product, then simply do not buy it. I don't understand what the big deal is.
>>
>>47079766
>2880x1620 = workarea of 1440x810.
This was basically his theory. Implying everyone scales up if he has a higher ppi display.
>>
>>47079814
I think it's the blatantness of it which is why it's being discussed. Most other laptops on the market are more capable machines and serve about as well as each other as general purpose computers. This is such remarkable pandering to the spoonfed netbabby generation that, if it takes of, will be another nail in the coffin of powerful personal computing.

We are basically living through the transition back to dumb terminals, which is interesting but imo kinda sucks. The macbook really isn't anything of note though, I agree.
>>
>>47079834
The "simple computer for simple people doing simple things" argument only goes so far.
If it were that then it would be far less expensive. Why does it cost just as much as Apple's pro line of laptops then? If it's 'just designed for simple things'.

>a 2k screen costs 1,000 dollars because it's a laptop part
It doesn't matter that it's a desktop part. Its still more than 2 times the resolution of the new macbook screen for $200 cheaper.

Why didn't they instead improve the Macbook Air?

Keep the thickness because who ever complained about the Macbook Air being too thick?
Keep the great keyboard.
Add the new touchpad.
Make the screen bezels thinner.
Give it a retina screen.
Use the same kind of batteries as in the new Macbook to compensate for the higher res display.
And release a black or space grey version of it.

why aren't people happy about this?

it's a sign that apple is returning to the same shitty profit margin goals they pursued in the '80s, and this time there's no Jobs or Microsoft to bail them out when it inevitably fucks them in the ass.

Oh wait I didn't even realize that it's even lower than 1440p. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009613&cm_re=1440p_ips-_-24-009-613-_-Product
So that extra $550 compared to this monitor and which is already subtracting the cost of the specs ($200) of the new macbook is because it's a laptop part or because Apple twinkled their magic dust on it to make it somehow better?

Are PCIe 256GB SSDs that cheap, because last time I checked you would pay more than $200 just for the SSD.

I'm not the guy you're replying to, and I'm not defending the MacBook, but I hate this autistic logic of "hurr every applel product is $1000 overpriced", because its simply not true. Sure, they are expensive, but ignorant one sided shit slinging is just as bad as apple shills.

You are a NEET /g/tard.

>>47080872

/g/ is on autismbucks and therefore cannot afford good quality hardware nor operating systems, hence the proliferation of 10 year old thinkpads and *nix
>>

Ya I completely forgot about ssd but you can buy a 250 gb ssd for $120 dollars now. It still doesn't change the fact that this thing has similar specs to an Acer C7 Chromebook which was sold at retail a year ago for $200. The only thing to even justify the price is the higher res ips screen and the ssd which still doesn't seem anywhere near $1,200.
>>
>>47082826
Then find a laptop that offers the same for a significantly less price. A laptop, not a shitbook and an external monitor.

>why do you care bro? it's only 600-800 extra dollars more than similar performing competitor laptops
>Thinkpad? Bro, tell me you're joking, you can't possibly use that.
>It looks like shit, just shell out the extra 700 or 800 bucks for pure aesthetics and stop caring about stupid shit like "cost efficient performance", like seriously bro? What does that even mean?
>>
>>47082814

you can buy old apple shit for about the same price as the old thinkpads, and it's not like we don't know how to pirate

nonetheless /g/'s obsession with thinkpads and other corporate gear that no normie unironically uses makes me fucking kek every time some mouthbreather whines about apple being "for hipsters" when this place is literally the most hipster tech community on the internet

Why would you want such a horrible combo?

Have you seen the benchmarks for the M processor?

They get the same scores as the i5 mobile processors.

It is actually exciting what they can do with 5 watts.

I can't wait to see the next generation of ultrabooks.
>>
>>47083050

I just bought a fully functional 2008 MacBook out of a shopping cart for $5. They hold their value a little longer but ultimately they're the same piece of shit

The fucking i5 4300u rekts the 5Y10 nad uses 14w
The core M is almost as powerful as a gen 4 U i3 wich is a shame in terms of performances but really good for fanless tablets and ultrabooks, unlike the surface pros

Not very impressive considering it uses a Turbo Boost to 2.6GHz, which will not run for a significant amount of time in real-world situations due to thermal throttling. Still, it's not bad for 5W, but not groundbreaking.
