What laptops do you guys use as your daily driver? Best laptop to buy?
>>
I got this for $660
SSD, i5, 8 gigs of ram
>>
Dell elitebook 2540p refurbished. Got in on sale on newegg for like 230. i7 4g ram 240gb hd fully loaded version. Honestly go look for it on newegg right now and you can get it for cheap. They were originally 1200 new. Very good laptop imo

Finally a laptop thread so I can write up a guide. No used laptops please, there's already guides for those.

So far, I have:
Under $250
>HP Stream 11
>ASUS eeeBook X205TA
>Acer ChromeBook C720

$250-$500
>

$500-$1000
>Dell XPS 13

$1000+
>Surface Pro 3 (i5 256GB)

Also, my daily driver is a rMBP13 (late 13).
Recommend a laptop for me to put on the list and I'll do extensive research on each and see if they're worthy.

>>
>>47055876

Late 2011 MBP 13"; RAM upgraded to 16gb 1866 MHz recently.

My other laptop is an HP m6 envy touch w/AMD A10 on Windows 8.1.

Finally, I have an Acer Aspire 4330 w/intel celeron 575 and 3gb ram running openSUSE w/KDE and all display effects off.

MY fave is the MBP followed by openSUSE, then the Windows.

And what does that have anything to do with who you quoted?

Hp g6-2238tx
I7-3632qm 2.2-3.1ghz, 8gb ram and amd switchable graphics (hd 4000/7670m), 750gb 5400rpm drive. Had for about 2 and a half years now. Battery life is fairly average, ~5 hours of note taking and light browsing. Performance is alright as well, might get an ssd for it though just to speed it up a bit.

I've got a Zenbook UX303LN for school and it's fuckin great. Normally they're expensive as shit but I got it on sale; I wouldn't have got it otherwise.

>>47056233
something that will last and be user serviceable. usually any kind of business line thinkpad, elitebook, or latitude is a good start. used if your budget is low.

Why?

I'm upgrading it with a 1400x1050 IPS panel soon

My x61 for school. Works great for typing on, even taking notes with the pen. (Its a tablet) The battery is ahitty and it can get warm under load, even after changing the thermal paste, but I got it for 150 and I have a pretty high end PC, no need in spending money on a laptop

hey trollfag how does it feel to be a trollfag trollfag
>>
>>47056288
eh, if you go to low on the specs, running shit like solidworks becomes unbearable if you want to be able to use it away from a lab computer or your home desktop.
>>
>>47056258
right now I have $ 1,000 to spend. What will you choose?
>>
>>47056311
install gentoo
>>
>>47056311
if that is usd, then i recommend on heading over to slickdeals, finding the post about the thinkpad sale that's currently going on, and getting the corporate perks link. you'll get a better deal through that link than lenovo employees.
h++ps://slickdeals.net/f/7722663-lenovo-sale-extra-35-off-t-series-thinkpads-from-545-free-shipping (replace the ++ with tt)

for portability but still useful screen size for solidworks and the like.

i'd recommend a t450s with:
i5 5200u
4gb base (install an 8gb stick later)
base 500gb hdd ( install your own ssd later)
and FHD display ( it doesn't say it, but it's an IPS that's really good)

otherwise, you can get a decent spec'd w550 for under $1000 as well if you want a workstation machine.

seriously right now, the deals through that link are insanely good.

Why would you want to do that anon?!

if you're working on a project and don't want to be cramped in a lab or distracted at home?

it's not as much of a problem if you can tolerate labs with little workspace, or live by yourself and have good self discipline at your home workstation.

Mid 2009 MBP 13"

This thing is still an animal for a nearly 6 year old computer. Dual boot Win7, and it still runs Autodesk Inventor with minimal hiccups.

Looking forward to upgrading to 8gb ram and an SSD, and continuing to use this thing for a few more years.
