I think its finally time to upgrade, but I don't know what the market is like. I want gigabit Ethernet and USB, and prefer to still use ddwrt. What do?

Buy an AirPort Extreme, currently best in market for consumers.

ur cumpoopar have gigabyte port on it? otherwise why brother?

Do they make computers with 100M Ethernet ports other than the rpi?

Unfortunately you are stuck with 4 ethernet ports on almost if not all consumer wireless routers. I'm quite happy with my old Netgear r6300 v1 as the dd-wrt works great with it (March 1st firmware). I'm considering the r7500 but the highest model supported is the r7000.

I've also read that Asus models do well with dd-wrt as well

A couple of things I've noticed with dd-wrt are:
no NAT acceleration
no IPv6
>>
>>47045106
is this bait or are they actually good?
>>
>>47045211
4 Ethernet ports are fine, as long as it's Gig-E.

I've looked into Asus models, and came across the AC66U, but are there better prices than the $150 they're asking?

WR1043ND

don't spend more than $40 for a soho router that looks like a spaceship

good non wlan router for <150 (min 4 ethernet ports) ?

Build your own router and use acess points for wifi.
>>
>>47045916
intel atom as a cpu should be enough, right?
>>
>>47045299
I've used a ASUS RT-N15U and RT-N18U. Both are fuckfast, have gigabit ports, and can use Tomato. The RT-N18U uses ARM cpu, meaning it takes a bit longer to boot up, but on the upside it is twice as fast as the N15U.

I was running both of them on a half-gigabite connection, so they are future proof in case you get upgraded to first-world-country internet.

They are also both very cheap. This is because they lack AC antennae. Actually, the N18U is the same as one of the AC models, literally with the AC antenna taken out.

Perfect for a wired small network.

I got an i7 4790k running the network. Just works.

Also a GTX 970, really improves wireless performance and range
>>
>>47046022
ok, and now without sarcasm ...
dammit, i've never build up a router myself.
how should i know, what cpu fits perfect for this.
i trust most /g/uys here more than google. (i don't trust google at all)

I had a shitty compaq laptop that only had 100M. It was from 2010 though.

>>47045844
Just get a wifi router and disable the wifi?

>>47045916
Good luck building something as power-efficient as a prebuilt router.

what? is that supposed to be a censored SHIT or did you shorten the word SOMETHING?

man you people are getting lazy if you cant take 2 seconds to type ou t a whole word... guess you need those 2 seconds to keep updating your facebook status

shorten something...
sry learned that this like in school ...

I upgraded from my DDWRT powered WRT54G to a RT-N66U. Works well, does everything I wanted it to do.

What's the range? I have a wireless printer I want to use as well, but its on the other side of the house

similar ... germany, the country of lazy faggots
>>
>>47046591
Germany should be a effective country though, no lazy shortcuts like that.

Look at your forefathers, they didn't just round up a couple of jews, they took everyone they could find, no shortcuts.
>>
>>47046680
in this case effectivity = lazy
doing something (s.th.) similar for less amount of power needed to do it (effectivity)
>>
Is there any advantage to having an AC router over N right now?
