Who's got the slowest Daily Driver on /g/?

Not your hobby machine, not that old rig you keep around to play with DOS, *your* computer, the machine that makes up >50% of your electronic life, the thing you're probably reading this post on right now.

I don't expect to set the lowest benchmark at all here here but

you don't really need much to do that anymore, fuck I can probably do most of my daily workload on a Pentium III.

OP here, I was wondering about that. I understand that not everybody needs to run Crysis or do CAD modeling, but I'm having a hard time seeing how people get by with less than a Pentium 3 and 512-1024mb of RAM. I could just about picture that sort of computer "making it" in the 2015 world, I guess since that's similar specs to many low to mid range smartphones.

Because, I mean, how do guys with slower rigs than that handle video playback? Or loading web pages with any Javascript in them? Or even opening and saving largish JPEG or text files? And if you're using Windows, you know how dangerous old versions are, right? But even on Linux won't you have trouble finding something running an up to date kernel or is that not something that really concerns people?

I'm trying to get a grasp of how you guys use these rigs in practice.

>but I'm having a hard time seeing how people get by with less than a Pentium 3 and 512-1024mb of RAM.

I've shitposted here from a Pentium II-300 and 128 MB RAM in the past, it's really not that bad if you maintain your shit properly. You just can't multitask.

>Because, I mean, how do guys with slower rigs than that handle video playback?

people were watching DVDs with 200 MHz Pentiums once, the real problem is that modern web design is cancerous bullshit. It's not the video playback that kills them, it's the fact that the website uses 30 MB of RAM to add a gradient to their like button because modern programmers are complacent fucktards who think modern hardware is an adequate excuse for shitty code.

>Or even opening and saving largish JPEG or text files?

never been a problem for me

>And if you're using Windows, you know how dangerous old versions are, right?

people always tell me that >>47037932 is probably loaded full of viruses and all kinds of other botnet shit "that runs in the background, s-so you just don't notice it!" just from connecting to the internet but it runs as fast as it did when I installed 2K on it two years ago and I've noticed no abnormal activity

not that I would trust it with anything that actually mattered anyway, even if it is rock solid as fuck

Mid 2009 MacBook Pro
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo T9600 @ 2.80GHz, 4 GB DDR3, 500 GB 7200 RPM drive.

I'm using this damn thing till it dies, but the thing continues to perform great and run. I do disassemble it about once a year and blow all the dust out of it, that may have something to do with it continuing to operate well.

Believe it or not, it's actually pretty hard to shit up older OSes like Windows 9x with modern malware. Much of it will not even run because the OS is just that old. Protection through obscurity, or obsolescence in this case.

Network security is another matter, of course.

Thinkpad T60 from 2006.

Intel Core 2 T7200 @ 2.0 Ghz per core

Dual booting between Win XP SP3 and Puppy Linux. It's amazing what this thing can still do 9 years later. Hardy little Internet terminal, with Youtube and everything.

X61. Old C2D, 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM, 500GB Toshiba SATAIII HDD running on SATAII, 1024x768 on some Intel 965 I think. Newest Mint KDE. Planning to swap it for a X201, 'cause widescreen is the way to go. X61 also tends to overheat and the speaker is shit.

When I'm at my hometown I use a 10 year old computer.

Single core Pentium 4
512 MB RAM
Slow as fuck HDD and USB 1.0 only.
I think something's failing, like the hard drive, because the linux filesystem always gets corrupt after installation.
Windows whine about missing files but keeps going.

I should probably backup my files at some point.
