Can anyone identify this mini laptop for me?
>>
>>47036305
It's a generic Chinese 5" UMPC, that's sold under many different brands. You can find them on Dealextreme and alibaba.
They still make them for some reason.
>>
>>47036341
I can't find any of these. the only cheap generic things that keep coming up are those 7inch netbooks that run android.
>>
>>47036305
I found one but in white and :

http://hiton.en.alibaba.com/product/290210405-209674456/5_5_inch_UMPC_touch_small_mini_notebook_laptop_with_HSDPA_3G_module_optional.html
>>
>>47036305
Looks like an MID MI12.
>>
>>47036509
THANK YOU
I've not used alibaba before. do I really have to email the seller to find out a price?
>>
>>47036547
yes and if you do order, get ready to wait for a while

last thing i bought on alibaba took around 40 days to be delivered
>>
It is a G Net
>>
>>47036509
> 11.Lithium Battery 2-cell Lithium polymer 7.4V 1850mAh,can work about 2-3 hours
sweet
>>
Are there any good UMPCs? I know they have been made redundant by tablets, but I just love the form factor
>>

Could this machine play Doom?
>>
>>47036871
it's running windows xp

of course it can run doom

thats neat

That is really neat and you don't need all that vram for textures
>>
>>47037830

update: Doom 1 doesn't full screen or window properly, I'll need to look into that

quake 1 doesn't load. for shame, but I'm sure it's something on my end and not the computer
>>
it also comes with a 3g card, and a mobile partnet program so you can make calls, sms, and use the internet with. It's really and all in one device but the problem is the speed, and the battery life.

>>
if only that mini laptop could play emulated n64 games on it well it'd be worth it to recommend. but for now it's just RCT all day err day, and when I fix the 3g card in it, a spare phone
>>
>>47046076
phones can emulate N64, that thing could easily do it.
>>
>>47046096

it can do everything but n64/psx and beyond. You can download experimental gma 500 drivers for it, but it skews the full screen resolution and only super mario 64 works at 320x240

that looks awesome I'll give it a try when I get home. I did some research yesterday and it looks like more people had problems with just vanilla quake than anything

Tell the chinese seller that you are interested on that umpc and you want to sample it before you do business with him. Ask him how much for just one then. When you receive it just don't communicate with him anymore they mostly don't care if you don't buy more or jusrt forget.

Not reallly, these are like netbooks from 2008
Even $100 would be too much since you can get much better windows tablets for that price
Seriously, even the hp stream 7 is much better than these
>>
>>47048951

yeah it is, sadly. I wonder what drives the price.

maybe the form factor, it makes phone calls, is globally compatible with gsm bands. I took mine apart (which is why the 3g doesn't work anymore) and the insides are very proprietary, I've never seen anything like them.

the ssd is a chip with a ribbon that is soldered onto the mobo.

yeah have tried a few distros, drivers are ok, the disk speed really kills it and it's a zif connector so basically no replacement drives let alone ssds so unless I can do something silly like raid 0 across both memory card slots its pretty much dead

Mine was one of the original ones that came out, so it was very slow, and wow it got hot. the one in the OP doesn't get nearly that hot, and although it's not nearly as fast, I always noticed the cpu in the vaio was always getting throttled. I wonder if the display resolution hurt it more than helped.

I tried installing lubuntu and kubuntu before I gave up. now I wish it was still working so I could try pear os just to see if it'd work. but unfortunately I took it apart to see what kind of ssd was in it. ah, welp...

seriously what is up with these weird ssd's in these things?

yeah you can run linux, but it'd have to be a lite version or a modified regular one.

even better thing is the box came with a driver disk of all of the drivers for windows xp so if you get stuck you have all the tools you need to revert back.

found an old pick. bro the keyboards on these are larger than life. I would have rather had something with a bit of a more satisfying press, but the low mileage is a requirement for this thing.

it's not the last model made (that's the P11xx) so it shouldn't be more than $300. It has a 1.6 vs 1.3 GHz atom z530 which is single core BUT has hyperthreading.

I would look for someone with a p11 or a k798 they're a bit better in terms of hardware, but for those you'd be lucky to pay 500-800
>>

also the batteries are trash, you HAVE to have the extended battery. it'll double your battery life from 3-6 hours.

if I had the money I'd buy this in a heartbeat. aside from its alligator-womanly-purse-like top to it, it's a beefy netbook with great parts in it, and the seller is giving it away for that price. that one is one of the top of the line ones made and are extremely hard to find.
