Can somebody please tell me why this thing gets so much praise?

Can somebody please tell me why this thing gets so much praise?
I got one a few weeks ago because of /g/ and it's absolute shit. It's slow and unresponsive as soon as you get up to around 32GB.

Honestly /g/, do not buy this thing.

Works for me

Also rockbox
>>
>>47036212
rockbox it and your problems will go away
>>

>>47036264
I put Rockbox on it already.

I use a 20 Euro Nokia 108 with 32GB microSD. It can play music for 40 hours straight and after that I just change the battery and I'm good for another 40 hours. Supports AAC.
>>
>>47036278
I'm beginning to think it is.
>>
>>47036276
you did it wrong then

Sansa Clip+ is nice, but isn't perfect. That said, it's still probably your best bang for its buck

Pro's
>Small form-factor and clips to your waist, great to take along when exercising
>With or without Rockbox, it plays just about everything
>MicroSD expandable
>With Rockbox, it's extra snappy
>Great for audiobook and podcast listeners

Con's
>Poor battery life, needs to be charged daily with heavy usage
>Poor physical integrity. I've owned two Sansa Clip+'s and on both of them the back clip snapped off and the volume buttons have caved in. On the Clip+ I use today, I've used velcro to reattach the clip and I set up the quickscreen in Rockbox to adjust volume.
>>
>>47036212
because it's so inexpensive

i loved mine but lost the cord to it, i've got 50 micro-usb cables i don't need but not a single mini-usb cable. why the hell did they use such an obscure connection?
>>
>>47036387
But for £40 + a decent sized memory card, you can go down the route of the Fiio X1.
>>
have it, rockboxed it, and works
im using external storage (64 gb, nearly full)

but i'd like a touchscreen like ipod so i can easily navigate through the albums and stuff but i just use a-z index search
>>
The Clip Zip is better.
>>
Why use rockbox anyway?

How's the tag support on it? I have HEAAC+ music with Disc number tags, on Windows Phone, it can't tell which disc it is so I get Disc1T1 then Disc2T1 and so on.
>>

The Clip Zip uses micro USB.

Flac
>>
What's the fucking appeal of this shit?
Why would you separate your music onto another device?
What's wrong with a phone?
Do you people really carry this and your phone around?
>>
>>47036588
It only supports AAC LC, tagging should work fine, it recognizes artists and albums etc

>>47036212
Get an iPod or use your iPhone.

FLAC is for archiving though

How come I hear about this just now? Does anyone have any experience with installing it on a Sansa Clip Zip? I read their wiki, and they say that some people get some noice from the CPU in their headphones. How bad is it?

How is the battery life compared to the stock firmware?

What file system does it run? I've wanted to put git annex on the thing to simplify moving files to it, but it needs symlinks, so VFAT is a no go. Can I have it use ext3?
>>
>Can somebody please tell me why this thing gets so much praise?
It only costs a couple months pocket money to buy
>>
>carrying around 32gb of music
You fucking dumb children.

This is why you should all be fucking euthanized. You are absolutely TOO FUCKING STUPID TO LIVE.

You realize that you can remove and replace music at will on it, right? RIGHT?

Goddamn, no wonder we don't have nice things any more. You fucking idiots have encouraged companies to stop making good things and make only garbage that you think is good when it's not.

Fuck off, children. Fuck the HELL off.

My phone doesn't have a headphone jack and only plays Qualcomm QCP audio files.

Plus, y'know, 20 hours of continuous use versus a smartphones 3.

What kind of dogshit phone do you have?
And how is at all efficient spending 60 bucks on a music device when you can add just a little more and have a phone and media device.
>3 hours
bullshit
as long as you aren't using a garbage phone that's 4 years old with a worn out battery, solely listening to music should last more than 6-7 hours
if you want to pretend that you need to listen more than that continously you could always just turn on flight mode and get a fuckton of more time
>>

Never mind, I installed it myself. No noise at all. Battery reports 15h left at 100%. Seems to be VFAT only.
>>

How bad of an idea would it be to buy a $30 prepaid smartphone and just use that as a music player?
>>
It's cheap as fuck and has a MicroSD slot, Also it's pretty small.
>>
>>47038846
Depends on the smartphone. Does it have a microSD slot? Battery size? How bulky is said phone?
>>

>>
>>47037087
It's less of a drain on the phone and not everyone has a smartphone.
>>
>>47036442
The x1 costs more than twice what the clip+ does with a card, is much larger, and has no internal storage.

The clip+ is cheap, can play a decent array of files, drives larger headphones decently, has a mic and fm tuner and can hold a decent amount of data.

>>47037085
FLAC works on the stock firmware

>>47037390
The clip+ actually preforms pretty well for what it is-better than most phones pretty easily, see NwAvGuy's (who designed the O2) testing.

Heck I've seen comparisons where it fared alright compared to the x1.
>>
>>47036387
>Poor battery life, needs to be charged daily with heavy usage
Mod a battery on it.

>>47037002
No.
>>

But it does. I just plugged mine in using my phone's cable.

This is good as long as you physically mod it and completely change the software.

A broom is good as long as you get rid of the handle and the bristles.
>>
>>47040130

Do you enjoy having dirt and dust around your home?
>>

Eh honestly the clip is fine stock.

Rockbox is nice but the clip/+s firmware is nice enough it's not necessary.

No you don't.
There's no way you can listen to even a fraction of that in one sitting or even on a single battery charge.
Why don't you just carry a small selection?
>>
>>47040303
Because. I want to have all the music I may want to listen to in case society collapses, and I have no other reason than that.
>>
>>47040250
>no FLAC

No, the clip supports flac and the zip does AAC

Honestly curious if you actually have Orbis music and where you got it

This one is completely a problem and I cant see how Sandisk would let it slide

I keep a second copy of my music library in Opus 72kbps for the sole purpose of shoving more music on a 32GB card.

>>

meme mp3 player.

aka nostalgia
>>
>>47036212
You are an idiot. Don't ever fucking buy something because some people say so, dipshit. Do your own fucking research and figure out whether you want it or not.

Fucking consumerist piece of shit. Sage and fuck you.
>>
I bought one of these today, along with a 16 micro SD card because my friend recommended it to me. I haven't gotten it yet, but the screen looks weird. The top 1/3 is permanently yellow, while the bottom 2/3 is permanently blue. It's odd.

Anyway, I'm gonna Rockbox it when I get it, because Gameboy emulator.
>>
>>47037268
Installation is pretty straight-forward and fool-proof. Also, when powering on, hold the "left" button to skip bootloader and get back to original firmware.
I didn't notice any major differences to battery life yet, but dropping songs in seems to work WAY FASTER.
I do not regret "rockboxing".
>>
>>47036212

That works fine if you live a fairly sedentary lifestyle. Less so if you're away from electrical outlets for most of your day.
