Performance stagnated during the last 7 years, even a Core2Duo is 100% usable nowadays.
Intel Core M is more than enough for everyday tasks and only consumes 5W.
Thats why the new macbook is a perfect machine for me.

The fact that it has the performance of C2D for $1300 to $1800 is not the only thing wrong with it. It has shitty battery life for just a 5W TDP and being mostly battery on the inside. Dude, PC is an AMD Athlon X2, the original, 2GHz. Shitty performance, my GPU is an IGP Radeon HD3200 and I use it to watch HD movies.

I think the new Macbook is beautiful, but figure if I wait until 10nm (2016) USB-C will be the norm for new devices, HVEC blocks will enable 4K playback and encoding with no issues, maybe Apple we put a better webcam in, and better graphics.

This new Core Y is super decent, performance is between a Haswell i3 and i5, but now you don't need a fan and it consumes less energy, which means more battery life (or thinner laptops).
It's not for me since I need performance for Video/Audio editing and casual gaming, that's why I have a rMBP.

I have a custom built FX-9590/R9 290x workstation at home, and a 2013 MBA (256gb SSD).
If I do any studio work, I use the MacBook Air. Sure the screen color accuracy is shit, but once I see that lighting and exposure is on point, it just serves as the vessel that holds my photos. I'll tether to it and it's powerful enough to dump the tether captures straight to an external.
I think that many of you underestimate how powerful processors are now. This new MacBook literally satisfies an entire market of computer users that most of you ironically now fit into. I bet this thing can even play fucking CS.
