Thinking of selling my 13" MBA for this. What's the new battery life like?

I'll take a thinkpad x250, they have trackpoint buttons back.

They updated the 13" but not the 15" with Broadwell

Holy shit I just headed over and looked at the new macbook pros, the cheapest 15-inch is $1999!

I don't see how you people can use anything less than an effective 1440x900 workspace.
How do you deal with 1280x800?

I don't even see the point anyway, anything over 1080p on a 13" laptop will just destroy your battery life.

My 2012 Macbook with a battery that can only hold 80% of its original charge can easily get 5-7 hours and it has a 2880x1800 screen.
The battery life impact is not anywhere near as bad as you think.

New MacBook:

2lbs
13.1 mm thick
Intel Core M processor
LED lit keyboard
2304 x 1440 screen
9-hour battery life web browsing
Starts at $1,299

Surface Pro 3:

1.76 lbs
9.1 mm thick
Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processors
optional LED lit keyboard
2160 x 1440 touchscreen
9-hour battery life web browsing
Starts at $799

Who would even consider the macbook.

Blurry.

is this really true you americunts?
do you really can get pro3 for $800?

I read about insane battery life when you use keyboard with additional battery in it.
>>
>>46935972
It seems comfy tbh.

>thin and light with good battery life, college students will love it

>gets the *most essential* interfaces that you interact with all the time (aka screen, keyboard, touchpad) right

>the keyboard has probably the best feel of any dome keyboard

>it's affordable, nothing crazy like 3k

Of course it's gonna be successful.

It's perfect for what people do most of the time, i.e. browsing the web, writing papers and presentations, watching movies and series, etc. .
>>
>>46936539
I don't notice any blurriness over the "Best for Retina" option.

I don't wanna sound like a faggot but I have to say it.

This is why I hackintosh, I built a mini ITX rig with a H97 mobo with BT/WiFi, i7, 16gb of ram, and a 256gb ssd for under $700.

The price of these laptops is just shit compared to the performance they provide.
>>
>>46936582
>OS X uses vector graphics for all of its UI
You've never opened the sart file have you?
It's raster.

OS X renders your desktop at a higher resolution and then downscales it.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5996/how-the-retina-display-macbook-pro-handles-scaling
>>
>>46936584
I guess so. /shrug
>>
>>46936600
People don't buy Macbooks for their performance, they buy them because they're expensive, feel expensive, have perfect software and hardware integration and run OS X which many people agree is superior to Windows.
>>
>>46935972
What the hell is a "Force Touch trackpad"? I don't speak Apple.
>>
>>46935972
OP can you post that wallpaper?
>>
>>46936588
Of course it is.

At least for most of Europe, and I thought US had higher incomes on average.

Any low/mid-class kid from a family with 2 working parents will be able to afford this, easily.

Heck, even with a college job it's doable, and it's a machine that you keep 3-5 years easily.

>>
>>46936656
I think you're out of touch. Most college students I know can barely eat, and even dual income parents doing well for themselves aren't too eager to drop $1300 on a laptop when they can get some shitty Asus for $4-500. You didn't see nearly as many MBAs until they dropped the price to $1000.
>>
>>46936354
Wayland will save us.

>>46936380
160 - 190ppi is ideal for laptops with minimal scaling issues. Also I'd rather have a calibrated 1440p display than an average 1800p display any day.
>13.3" at 1080p is 166ppi
>14" at 1080p is 157ppi
>15.6" at 1440p is 188ppi
>17" at 1440p is 173ppi

>>46936624
People buy Macbooks to fit in and because "lol I don't know how to computer and I heard it was easier". Smart people but Macbooks for OS X.
>>
>>46936609
>>46936609
How do I see this blurriness, dude? I'm seriously sitting here looking at my rMBP with a magnifying glass while changing resolutions and I just don't see it.
>>
>>46936712
The market Apple is doing well in right now is college students. It's "cool" to have a macbook, so dumb students will be pressured into buying their product to fit in. Just like beats headphones. Their target is rich kids who have money and want to fit in, which is pretty much every well off student. At least here in the US, the division between the rich and poor is large so if they aim to be the "premium" product, there's a more than adequate market for their overpriced metal rectangles.

Microsoft is obviously lying about the battery life if they claim to get the same with a much more power hungry processor.

I'm in UK.

My student loan (9000£/year) pays for full tuition.
The maintenance loan (7500£/year) pays for rent and living expenses (food, books, transportation).

I get a 3000£/year (non-repayable) bursary, because of low family income (ok in my country, but low for UK standards).
This money is literally vacation money.

So, I have my tuition and living expenses sorted, without working or asking a single euro from my parents.
I also have the extra 3000, which I use for travelling and films/cameras.

I also work part time some months, for extra money for travels.

A kid with parental support? They're really golden.

Unless the system is vastly different in US.

It's not dead.

1) broadwell quad core mobile processors aren't out yet. Biggest reason. All 15 in MBP models have quad core processors
2) They never update the 15in MBP line at events that aren't WWDC or their fall events. It'll most likely be updated at WWDC in June

>The entire point of the new MacBook’s existence is to be a lightweight computer that you can rely on, all day.

>This is entirely why Google’s finding so much success with Chromebooks; they’re simple, last forever on a single charge and are fairly light for people that just don’t something more powerful. Apple’s new machine fills that niche with a higher-end computer that won’t break the bank like a MacBook Pro.

Did they REALLY just compare a $1200 laptop to a $200 one and try to paint it as a budget solution compared to a MBP?
