IT'S HAPPENING
>>
>There's also a new security feature called "Device Protection," which will lock a lost or stolen device until the user signs in with their Google account—the lockout even survives a factory reset.

Great, now Marshawn will post about not only his "friend's" iPhone but also his "friend's" Galaxy.

Finally
>>
ROMs when?
>>
It's called 5.1 because that's the percentage of devices actually have lollipop at this point.
>>
Fucking hell Google.

Apple announced iOS 8.2 today. I got it 5 minutes after I read the announcement.

Now Google announces Android 5.1. Rollout? Sometimes in the next weeks. Maybe. Dunno.

How can Google be so incompetent?
>>

Nexus line, fucking retard. Google doesn't even manage to update their own devices at the same time.
>>
>>46935474

and who came up with the idea of letting manufacturers do whatever they want with android

nobody gives a shit about ios updates you numb digger
>>
>OS market share meaning anything
>>
>>46935584
OEMs and carriers pushed Android at the beginning because of that reason: they could modify it and do whatever they want. Now this is becoming a burden, though. If you aren't a pleb and buy intelligently (Nexus, Motorola...) this isn't even a problem anyway.
>>
lololoLolliflop

5.1, now with(slightly) less memory leaks and app lags.
>>

Bullshit. It took Google MONTHS to update the Nexus 7 3G.

God fucking damn it.

What is Windows?

We all have different Windows 8 set-ups with different software installed, yet we all get the upgrade at the same time.

This is typical linux excuse.
>>
>>46935280
>Lollipop 5.1 now even shittier than 5.0

top heh
>>
>>46936076
Why does it matter? You wouldn't want the latest version fresh out the box anyway
>>
Wow that was fast.
I wonder if they will release another Nexus device alongside it. Preferably a tablet that isn't complete garbage *cough* Nexus 9 *cough*

5.0.2 only just came to the Moto G after being out for MONTHS. So I'm gonna have to wait several more to get this. I wanted a reason to install CM, anyway.
>>
>>46936216
True, did you suffer on battery life with .0.2 by any chance?
>>
>>46936244
It's just installing now. Had to spent an entire afternoon finding out that I need the EXACT stock recovery before it'd even attempt to install.

Didn't they recently announce that only 3% of phone that use Android have lollipop installed?

Probably like 99% of phones that use Android are third worlders on chink phones.

Enjoy the stuttering animations. Don't deny it, LP is a laggy piece of shit on the Moto G. Hopefully this 5.1 update fixes it, though. No point in having 6 million animations if they're going to lag.

>>46937765
It took until May 2014 for the Droid Maxx to get get Kitkat so you're most likely going to have to wait to then. Though I hope my 1.5 year old phone actually gets Lollipop but after having a verizon galaxy nexus, I've lost all hope in my devices actually receiving updates. Though I need to get around to going back to Jellybean since Kitkat caused my phone to get 2 hours less screen on time.
>>
>>46937765
Holy shit me too

I mean I love the phone but its a Motorola and I expected timely updates
>>
Goy vey

Factory images are available for Nexus 5.
>>
>>46935299
indeed.. as a phone reseller this impacts the profitability of my business... i really hope someone comes with an adb command to cmpletely wipe the phone, not just factoryr esetting it but, actually formatting the partitions and installing a fresh copy.

Are google play edition devices still getting quick updates?

I'm still on 4.4.4. Is there seriously ANY reason to update my OS? Everything still works. I don't want bright white faggot colors. I don't want to deal with potential bugs, especially since I don't want to lose my current battery life. I don't want to update to something unstable just for the sake of updating; it's a phone, not an Arch desktop.
>>
>>46939399
Lollipop looks damn good but its shit on battery life

also does anyone know if 5.1 will be adding silent mode?

How is this device protection shit implemented...?

I can't imagine it working with phones that allow rooting and stuff.
>>
>>46935676
I got Loli only a few weeks ago.
>>
>>46939490

thing is... if the phone isn-t rooted then youll have no access to a custom recovery to allow for a complete system partitions wipe and installing a fresh android copy from scratch...

Thats of course, if someone from XDA doesnt come up with an ADB package to allow wiping the phone just by putting it in on bootloader mode and flashing a ROM, for Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola devices its really simple nowadays, but with this new update who knows.

>>

Listen here asswipe.

When Apple got the carriers by the balls regarding control over the iPhone, Google bedded them and promised to give them back that control, in exchange of shilling androids in their stores.

Carriers jumped on it, and that's how we got here.
So, in essence, it IS google's fault.

Dumb cunt.
