GDC 2015
The valve demos start today.
HL3 confirmed
So it seems like HL3 is going to be a steambox/steamcontroller/source2/VR game.

but can it install gentoo?

this is technology
Who is the autist that though "Vulkan" was a good name?
>>46840552
Why drop OpenGL as a name?
By the way where can I see the most up to date controller
>>46840587
Best I can do. We'll see real pictures today.
>>46840635
If there's already two trackpads, why the fuck is there an analog stick? Where's the goddamn dpad?
>>46840587
They aren't dropping OpenGL as a name, it's just called Vulkan for the next while to differentiate it from OpenGL 4.x
100% guaranteed it'll be called OpenGL 5 in the end.
>>46840652
I don't know what their ideas behind it are. They've been silent for a year or so.
It seems though that the analog stick is better for certain types of movement than a trackapd even though you could emulate any kind of *-pad on a trackpad.
Two trackpads for ambidexterity I guess.

So tf2 is kill?
>>46840699
Why?
>>46840709
Well when source 2 comes out, they probably release a tf3.
>>46840727
Nah, they'll upgrade it to Source 2 like they did with DOTA2.
>>46840699
IM GLAD.
IT HASNT BEEN GOOD SINCE 09.
>>46840739
I would love that.
>muh hats
>>46840727
Ah, that. Who knows, they really might just port it.
At this point DOTA2 already runs on some kind of version of Source 2 so they'll port it completely I guess. For TF2 the same. These games seem unlikely to get a sequel so fast.
I assume L4D3 will be a thing.
Phronix article Steam Link
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Steam-Link-Streaming-Device
Seems like they're cheapo SteamOS boxes which are just good for streaming because of they don't have the power to process games on their own. Could probably install anything on them.
This page has to go live today.

>>46840810
You're both wrong.
They won't release new games, or rather squeals.
>>46840739
This guy has it.
It makes more sense for them to make a game, thus that is more money, but you need to remember people buy hats, keys, crates off the market that goes to their wallet. They only need to keep the community happy.
They do this by providing updates, as Portal 2, L4D2, CS:GO, Tf2 have workshop, they have a seemingly never ending stream of content, this means we will never see these games die unless a really popular competitor comes along.
This can be see by looking how many people still play CS 1.6 or CS:S
>>46841665
>You're both wrong.
But I said the same as you.
L4D2 for example doesn't really make much money though, does it? It doesn't have a store or anything like that as TF2 and DOTA2 have.
Valve just said yesterday that they'd use Vulkan for _future Valve games_.
https://www.khronos.org/news/press/khronos-reveals-vulkan-api-for-high-efficiency-graphics-and-compute-on-gpus
>Valve and the other Khronos members are working hard to ensure that this high-performance graphics interface is made available as widely as possible and we view it as a critical component of SteamOS and future Valve games
And then there's the leaks. So it wouldn't surprise me to see a L4D3 in the future.
>>46840425
>>46840439
...didn't steam already have one or two in-home streaming services that were free?
>>46842268
Yes, that's just a in-home streaming that works with every steam client. I mean the program. Is free since the steam client is free.
This is a physical device. A little computer to accept streams from anywhere in your network to display it on a TV or such. Like I said before, probably just a small Steam Machine.
Well then, I just want all you guys to know I fucking called it.
>>46842332
Fuck off Ryan.
>>46840399
HL3 when?
>>46842332
You called it nigger. Well done. Really makes sense though. Even the cheapest Steam Machine would be overkill and too pricey if its only purpose was having stuff streamed to it.
>>46842287
Ah. Right.
no innovations confirmed except for some gimmick vr shit
what happened to the days of 3D renderer innovation
GoldSrc
>skeltal animation
>colored lights
>transparent surfaces
>scripted sequences
>env_beam
source 2
>pretty shaders and water
>prop based physics system
>promising facial expressions
these were all announced with the engine, is Source 2 just a free rehashed version of source assets?
>>46842357
n-no...
>>46842422
diminishing returns bro. Shits just getting better
WE VR NOW
>>46840810
>These games seem unlikely to get a sequel so fast.
>TF2
I may be a TF2fag, but the fucking game was released in 07.
In 2 years time, it will be 10 years old.
>>46842736
Yes, but it makes valve cash. That would be a reason not to scrap it just suddenly, right?
>>46842791
I suppose.
Honestly if they wanted to make a TF3 I would not be surprised if they tried to import items from TF2 so that inventories would port over without much issue. That is if they want to avoid completely destroying the heart of the Valve economy.
But with that said, many people are considering CS:GO to be the unofficial "TF3" now.
>>46842842
Yeah, I could see them carrying over inventories if they do sequels.
Whether it's CS:GO, L4D2 or TF2, I'd be interested to see Source 2 ports just for shiny new graphics and shit if not outright new games.
>>46840425
>>46840439
Holy shit, its real.
