This. It's vapid and says nothing a philosophy student hasn't in a short paragraph. However, convoluted visuals, disturbing atmosphere, dead-eyed emotionless girls, random computer shit, smug statements, and fucked up chronology leave feeble weeb minds thinking it's the greatest shit ever.

Lain is about a small step, maybe a hop, but not a jump, above "lucy".

Leave it to avant garde trash to oversell itself on reputation and sensuous assault alone. Like modern art that intends to leave the intellectually simple trying to figure out what the artist meant by a mess of random vaguely human-shaped scribbles, lain is meant to leave children asking existential questions and nothing else.

Read some actual philosophy.

You're quite myopic. The notion anyone has to "read some actual philosophy" is the icing on the cake.

Lain, like anything else, has components to harvest from it, and it takes on personalized meaning beyond itself. If you're sitting there solely chipping away at "what am I supposed to see" and quantizing it down the ideas you already have, of course you'll get little novel out of it. Just experience the damn thing, directly. There are a lot of levels and a lot of was to do so, most of which from I can tell, you've left entirely untapped yet convinced yourself you've seen all there is to see and have knowledge of the whole.

Talk about someone who needs to pick up a book and read some philosophy. You're clearly not getting very far on your own.

It is not "I see it this way, therefore, this is what and all it is." It is more accurately "I see it this way, therefore, I see it this way."

------
What kind of philosophy or philosophies are you into? Name anything. Top of your head, intuition, "random", whatever. Just name it.

The point of art is to have a specific meaning. Creating prompts is a waste of time, and considered harmful. Any answer to a man made prompt is guaranteed to be further detached from reality with each level of abstraction, poisoning the minds of whoever takes interest until they leave their basements and slowly begin to notice that their understanding of the world was a pointless understanding of a random person's poorly expressed views.

>The point of art is to have a specific meaning.
How do you know Lain lacks "specific meaning"? What is meaning?

>Any answer to a man made prompt is guaranteed to be further detached from reality with each level of abstraction, poisoning the minds of whoever takes interest until they leave their basements and slowly begin to notice that their understanding of the world was a pointless understanding of a random person's poorly expressed views.

There is more to interpreting a work than solely employing deductive reasoning in an attempt to decipher and discern a core truth or an intention. Any "answer" you get will say as much about you as it does what you're interpreting. That's actually where the value lies.

Here's another scenario. The media can be experienced as something that exists for its own sake. People can watch it, parse it, experience it whatever ways they're inclined or able. They can weigh the stimuli against their internal state, framework of knowledge, beliefs, hardwired logic, emotions, and use it as a proxy. Within each set of media (or experience), if we are to assume we exist in a deterministic and reductionist reality, there exists a finite spectrum of affordances that are defined by one's own self. Any experience allows you to travel down different avenues, which leaves you changed.

Your belief that all people can watch for it to iteratively resolve and sponge up other people's views is a false one. If you see Lain as composed of mere prompts, it will become that way, for you. If you reject the existence of personal meaning in art, that's too bad anon. That's the part that affords the most. It's the part tat allows new thoughts independent of your level of knowledge.

Anyway, there's a lot to be said. You aren't going to understand yet anyway, and you might never. Hope your internal state creates an affordance in your internal or external environment that you stumble onto, and it expands your perspective.

You must understand that I have long since rejected the idea that any of that can be anything but harmful to a stable of society. Expanding perspective outside of the confines of nature is not good for the world, nor is referring to "levels of knowledge" in the way you do, as the only truth is the material truth and the maximization of human productivity and prosperity. Any level of knowledge beyond that is masturbation, and the viewpoints manufactured by such "growth" will invariably cause artificial disruptions in a well honed system that happens to be one of the few systems this species is capable of sustainably dealing with.

There's a lot to be said. There's a lot to understand. But it really shouldn't be said, or understood, unless it is the revitalization of knowledge once lost to your bullshit. But that does not need media to be found, only patterns in nature and human behaviour, obfuscated by any vague media, although called to attention by language in a way consistent with the evolutionary purpose of language.

The natural revulsion most feel when encountering your kinds of things is a survival instinct. The resulting accusations of narrow mindedness and inferior intellect, in turn, are improperly used defence mechanisms ideally reserved for distancing oneself from people that would deviate or even think of deviating from the nature of man, which can be accurately determined as an average (significant deviants to be culled). But humans are not strict computers, but rather things that learn to follow patterns, and things that are malleable enough to pursue their own doom.

Your animes are counterproductive

Time to fund research into the causes of furfaggotry so we may one day wipe its most severe forms from the earth, perhaps. It would be nice if permavirgins like wat could be free to live proper lives, wouldn't it?

>>46842588
The other ones.

Nice strawman, by the way. The exercise of normal human society within an intellectual and social environment people are well adapted to results in ample leisure time, as its point is to create leisure time and surplus. Unnatural systems create eternal work or otherwise hold man back from his innate goals.

Being a furfag is a cheap target, but a good one when you realize that its foundation is questioning how people should exercise their sexuality and whether or not it should be "explored" (forcibly expanded with ill-considered novelty seeking behaviour enabled by persons with mental disorders). Furry, the fetish founded by broken men who suffered from disordered sexual development and inappropriate attachments to children's cartoon characters. What an example of what to avoid at any cost.

>ensure that only realistically attainable mates can be sexualized, as sexuality developed in an environment where that was the case and will not be able to adapt for millions of years
>treat mental disorders early so the ramblings of the ill can not infect the innocent

>I have long since rejected the idea that any of that can be anything but harmful to a stable of society.
We are intrinsically broken anon. We would destroy ourselves, tear everything down, collapse, either way. Again, and again. Unfortunately your way of thinking is quite widespread, and we're on the path to do so as we speak. It stems from a lack of wider perspective about what life is, can, and therefore, ought to be.

>Expanding perspective outside of the confines of nature is not good for the world
Our own faculties afford this constantly, with our without any of this. It's how we work, our notion and perspective on reality is not 1:1, and it's prone to distortion.

We likely have semantic differences about our idea of nature.

>"levels of knowledge"
Refers to the degree of which a macro concept is intertwined, built on, and expanded. Relative to any given collection of axioms / perception of an axiomatic bass that chain resolves to. It doesn't mean knowledge has tiers or that it's even connected with truth.

>as the only truth is the material truth
Which is not useful. You need to question things beyond to even come to the concept of material truth or a material in general.

>revitalization of knowledge once lost to your bullshit
Knowledge such? Lost how? "We" were the type of people who came up with trippy steam machines in 200 bc, primitive ideas of atoms, put it in a library, and then had your sort burn it the ground with your destructive delusions of strictly empirically derived truth. Your perfect world definitely has a double edge.

>Language
Language and logic are two sides of the same coin, but I would not say they are tied in an absolute sense, Each can evolve and expand the other, and some things exist apart from both.

Patterns in media are an extension of patterns in the human being. Ways that stimuli and factors come together. This evolves us as well.

So you believe Lain is too vague? (4u)

Distortions and errors in man are created by inappropriate media. Control of non-materialist "intellectual" material is essential to prevent it.

>and then had your sort burn it the ground with your destructive delusions of strictly empirically derived truth
Actually, your sort more often than not, people who placed faith in or were corrupted by media rather than the world around them, faith in pure communication of thoughts of thoughts rather than strict observation of the real and communication of that. Bad ideas, such as mistakes made in the name of abstract media, destroy themselves, even if they take down the truth first. The truth, however, arises again. It is self evident. The media does not. It is the product of a unique mind allowed to run too free. A level of knowledge above the first, the first without understanding that it is the first, is harmful unless it serves only to return from a mistaken journey beyond it and ensure that it never occurs again.

To evolve in a cave is to lose your eyes. The skull, as you can tell, is rather dark inside, so it's best to evolve outside of it. Should you find yourself in a cave, tread carefully with the intent to leave it.

I'm going to bed.

>people who placed faith in or were corrupted by media rather than the world around them
There you go. Here lies the core disconnect.

You yourself are driven by large amounts of faith, you just don't notice, acknowledge, or accept that it exists. Your logic has been hamstrung, and is shaped to reject its own shortcomings in favor of your blind faith in a universal axiomatic truth you can't actually prove exists.

Via the exchange of ideas and portrayal of concepts, people can come to more deeply identify the presence of such faith, faulty thought processes, inconsistencies, and heuristics within themselves and either consciously accept it, reconcile it, or just reject it. Your arbitrary idea of the "natural world" is ultimately no different, really. It just has a slightly different type of system.

People have asked the same questions from what was probably day 1 (depending where you put that point). If you're really set on this idea, you need to take it further. Suppression is not good enough, we are wired to generate these ideas and question our own nature and the nature of all else. You require outright removal to get rid of this trait. Either genetic engineering to remove it or our capacity for violence, or just some sort of selective brain damage.

Get on that I guess. Have a nice time.
