Ehh? I've comfortably run Win8.1 on a system with 1 GB RAM, though it can't do nearly as much as on the one with 12 GB. I've also run into the RAM limit with over 8 GB on both Windows and Linux. Try running some VMs and Chrome.

It's not THAT comfortable, but I can browse the web decently, though not with a bunch of tabs like I usually do, and open a couple apps without lag.
In terms of power user or someone who runs a ton of shit, it's useless. But for how people used to use a computer -- just a couple things open at a time and being conscious of resource use -- it's quite usable.

Why the fuck do I even come here?
I have found it to be useful every now and then when i'm working on my laptop. When you're in the zone you start to open shit without closing it. Once at the end of a workday i was sitting at like 80% RAM usage because i had several WMs, my IDE and zeptillion firefox tabs open.

My motherboard can take 32gb of DDR3 3200, so that is what I have. If it wasn't required, then my motherboard wouldn't have the facility to install it.
