Tim Cook confirmed for Best CEO.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/11441265/Terrorists-should-be-eliminated-says-Apples-Tim-Cook.html

>“Apple has a very straightforward business model," he said. “We make money if you buy one of these [pointing at an iPhone]. That’s our product. You [the consumer] are not our product. We design our products such that we keep a very minimal level of information on our customers.”

>“We don’t make money selling your information to somebody else. We don’t think you want that. We don’t want to do that. It’s not in our values system to do that. Could we make a lot of money doing that? Of course. But life isn’t about money, life is about doing the right thing. This has been a core value of our company for a long time.”

>“Some companies are not transparent that the connection of these data points produces five other things that you didn’t know that you gave up. It becomes a gigantic trove of data.”

>“We are not a treasure trove of data. It is a cop-out to say: choose between privacy or security. There is no reason why customers should have to select one. There is no reason not to have both.”

>“If they are really honest, they know that withholding encryption will penalise good people, not put a barrier up for bad people. There is no trade-off. It fundamentally doesn’t work. There has to be other solutions.”

Why aren't you using Apple products, /g/? Do you enjoy being constantly watched and data-monetized by Google, your mobile carrier, and the NSA?

>But life isn’t about money, life is about doing the right thing. This has been a core value of our company for a long time.
Just as long as they've been relying on the horrid working conditions of developing countries where regions are so economically depressed that if you're lucky enough to have a job, at any given instant with the slightest slip up, you're immediately disposable and any of the ten people waiting for your job will readily jump in.

Just think what kind of health and safety regulations are gonna be goin' on in places like this. Hint, barely any, you're disposable and bad publicity is hardly a problem. Apple definitely makes their money off "doing the right thing".

Unfortunately, merely by living in the first world, no matter how hard we ourselves might have it financial, we're ultimately still indirectly scum on some level. Owning a computer at all is probably direct proof of that, say nothing of smartphones. Everything is connected.

Apple making its software available on other vendors' hardware is tantamount to signing its own death warrant.

If the last year of Heartbleed and Shellshock exploits have demonstrated anything, it's that free software tends to be much too underfunded to be properly secured. Electronic security and privacy require money.

Good.
>If the last year of Heartbleed and Shellshock exploits have demonstrated anything, it's that free software tends to be much too underfunded to be properly secured.
Reality says otherwise, proprietary software is regular exploited every day.
>Electronic security and privacy require money.
Money and privacy have diametrically opposite motivations - with money comes obligations towards shareholders/investors, whatever makes the most money will win, and selling users data is an attractive business.
And security is completely useless without transparency - how can you ever trust a system you can't personally audit?

At least china is smart enough to be investigating LFTR. The one strength they have is a lack of being mired in a bunch of garbage surrounding the interests of people who are already on top and want to stay there.

Their infrastructure isn't still barely passed the level it was at in the 50's like ours. Utter joke. As they continue to develop, they will most certainly surpass the US on multiple fronts. What those fronts mean relative to the whole all depends.
>>
>>46795878

If LFTRs were pursued in the 50s 60s, they would have been a smart choice, but today the engineering required to spin them up is greater than the cost of just getting solar a little bit better

solar is boring which is why /g/ fags get wet for Thorium, but solar is going to be the cheapest and easiest to implement energy source

LFTR is happening, China intends to have the first plants online by 2025 and to deprecate all coal by 2050.

Solar is a great solution other than the need for storage.
>Implying Solar1/2/Tres will ever be anything but pipe dreams of engineers.
Also China has an extra problem in that they can't get into solar yet - it's rather hard to rooftop solar when your cities are black with smog and they don't really have the room for large setups elsewhere, it's all mountains or farmland.
>China can't afford to use arable land for solar either, they're already buying up millions of sq. KMs of land in Australia to use as farmland to feed their population.

Arguments about LFTR are now moot, China is already signed up and once they have the infrastructure for it - they can sell plants and fuel to other nations, making it a profit center not just an environmental prerogative.

Why do you insist on arguing about topics you don't know anything about? You're clearly don't know anything about the topic of innovation, considering how terribly feeble your gainsaying is.

How did you come to conclude that pointing to innovation being carried out in the private sector is "equating money with innovation"? Which particular problems has Tesla, SpaceX, Google or Solarcity failed to address and subsequently thrown money at? Private companies who "throw money" at projects because they "don't know what to do" go bankrupt. By what metric is NASA defunct?

>>
>>46796457

Each bug is the same on each system as one patch will distribute to each of those systems; this conclusion is based off of experience administering Windows systems.

How can you predict such things? The Chinese are willing to develop technologies that the US won't touch, genomics is one major example. And if they end up in a position to leverage the results in a way the US can't or won't, then naturally the US may fall behind.

Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity are all one guy - Elon Musk.
Also, he's from South Africa and intends to move all his interests to Mars.

Apart from the things mentioned above he is also:
- Building the largest factory in the world, it's bigger than the goddamn Boeing factory - to make batteries and has invested heavily in battery technology.
- Investing 10Billion dollars in Internet for Mars and is rolling out a pilot version paid for by Google to provide satellite internet anywhere on Earth.
- Hyperloop (a mass transit system for people and things that is sealed and contains its own atmosphere...)
- Robotic construction technology which is currently used for building Tesla cars and SpaceX rockets/pods and will be used heavily in the battery factory and SolarCity installations)

The man will colonize Mars in our lifetime.

my prediction is based on two things: the data about America's power (money, military, education, etc)

and: the recurring theme in U.S. history of "America is in decline, <country> will overtake us."

1900s -> Germany
1950s -> Russia

The data you mention just tell you what the current state of affairs is. In order to predict things you need to look at where trends are moving. The USA may score well on the metrics you mention, but it's also facing mounting problems with a badly educated negro populace blowing out cities, a stagnating middle class, a massive centralization of wealth, the erosion of legal rights, etc.

Now the pattern you're talking about isn't informative. It's like saying that if you put someone on a ship who constantly shouts "the ship is about to sink" that it never will. The presence or absence of such a person on-board has nothing to do with the eventual destiny of the vessel.

How is a country like Germany which is one fourth the size of Texas, has literally no access to natural resources and a fraction of the population supposed to have more economical impact?

What you dont seem to understand is, is that these asian countries are the first that will be able to rival the USA due to sheer size. A country where an american would have a hard time surviving. Switzerland has a lot of people with migrational background but that doesnt mean that they really like people from other countries. Switzerland is basically Austria 2.0

Dislike immigrants for the most part while being fine with German immigrants. Guess that could be said for any country though. Being German gives you a pretty ridiculous boost when applying for jobs anywhere in the world for some reason.

Generally speaking, Switzerland is pretty keen of its traditions and history. Thats why Germanic cities are widely considered the ones with the highest standard of living. This Switzerland, Austria and Germany make up for 50% of the cities in every single top 10.

If China, India and Indonesia keep evolving then they will be a proper threat to the US' position because what they lack in natural resources, they make up in workforce. Unless of course the EU is officially renamed into the 4th German Reich. Which quite frankly it already is.

Who the hell cares about those sub-contractors ? It's their problem if they can't keep the employees motivated.

Everyone who isn't a stone-cold autist would care. I realise in that sense that I'm shouting into the abyss.

kek, the indians are only a threat to themselves. They have virtually 0 infrastructure and one of the most corrupt government on earth.

>China
>Threat

Shit is gonna hit the fan real quick in China once their 15 % annual growth hits a wall. Look at how western industries will get the hell out of the country as fast as they can when the wages of the average chinese laborer will get as high as the costs of operating the newly built fully robotized factory in North America. Oh, and when we'll decide to enforce patent laws, we'll realize china is 10 years back in almost every tech sector.

It's ironic that the EU was founded to prevent such an autocratic system ever emerging again from Germany.

I wrote a proper response to you, but I accidentally reloaded the page and lost it. Sorry about that.

In short: The reason I won't bother arguing with you is because we have fundamentally different values on which we base our viewpoints. We'd end up contradicting each other in every post. That's no good argument. I've had tons of them with people like you over the last couple of years and, really, it's just pointless and boring. I have code to write. I think you'd feel the same.

Good luck with the nazism, though. I'd probably punch you in the face in real life and buy you a beer or something.

It really is. The Germans are basically the incarnation of a phoenix. Try to go almost 1vEntireWorld twice, lose, are being ripped apart, reunite and two decades later they are ruling over europe again without even having to invade anyone. And the more you read, the more you realize that most people are totally fine with it. Especially the ones who are Germanic themselves. Put them down and is a few decades they are in the same position again.

To be honest, this probably has less to do with Germany being so great and rather with countries like Great Britain and France being to fucking shit. They had a 50 years headstart to establish order and a following and couldnt get shit done.

Let me guess. The recaptcha "expired", stole focus from the text field, and then you accidentally hit backspace.

Gettin' real fuckin' sick of that, myself. Along with the image captchas moving you back to the top of the page, or the last post you jumped to.

They knew that they couldnt stop these Barbarians so they offered a peaceful option. This way no one will die by Nazi hands.

Whoa whoa, I'm from the UK. Don't blame Great Britain. Blame Scotland. Scotland are the fucking fruitcakes that keep voting in the socialist as fuck Labour party. I would be all up for Thatcher 2.

If you look at vote breakdowns it's all Scotland and scum towns in the north like Manchester that vote for socialism. Probably because they're poor cunts with bad education and genetics derived from people poisoned with coal mine gases.

It was even more stupid than that. The captcha began with an "r", which I have bound to reloading the page when not in a textbox, and I missclicked when selecting the input field.

Socialism is a means, not an end. When you say "I have different values" you're saying that you have different ends, you have a different vision of what a good society is. Socialism can be employed to serve whatever end you want.
