not exactly. There are entire new interface, it allows you to control it with gamepad in every moment so you don't need keyboard anymore. Also, there are some kernel patches and os boots up in three seconds.
I have it installed, it's still a gimmick - but fun and very suited for "console-like" usage.

Nvidia drivers are already considered "good enough" being pretty much identical to the windows ones, and they are already shipping games for Linux. Presumably they are telling oems to lay off AMD for the time being

AMD driver's OpenGL performance is as bad as their OpenGL performance on Windows.
Intel driver like all the open source drivers lags in feature support but the performance (at least on RadeonSI) is decent enough for playing most games. Hopefully Intel's newest integrated hardware is fast enough to play games.

well, I run windows sometimes, and use linux as my primary OS, and I can guaranty you that the drivers aren't good as the windows one. both nvidia and amd since I got two computers to test them. It's hard to say how much the windows drivers improve the performance, but for me it seems to be between ~x3.5 or x4

That's mainly AMD's catalyst driver. The other big problem is that a lot of engines just aren't as optimized for Linux/OpenGL as they are for Windows/DirectX so some games still perform poorly.

OpenGL runs faster on AMD cards than DirectX does. What's lacking behind on Linux isn't their OpenGL implementation, but the driver in general.
If their OpenGL implementation really was terrible, then AMD would have chosen to open-source their implementation like they're currently doing with the rest of the driver

It will be interesting to see how their new driver strategy pays off. For the moment though there's still no reason for me to even look at Catalyst when RadeonSI and Mesa work so well. With any luck the features standing in the way of OpenGL 4 support will start to drop in soon.

I'm on Radeonsi myself too, because Fglrx truly is broken. A damn shame that barely any current AMD cards will use the new unified driver. So I guess future versions of Fglrx will only support Tonga, Hawaii and the 300 series.
They will. Mesa 10.6 will sure reach OpenGL 4.0 compliance, perhaps 4.1 or even 4.2, considering many of the extensions are already supported

The intel card is identical on both, intels pretty good about that.

When some idea becomes established on 4chan, it's here to stay. When the Steam controller was unveiled, some people developed the idea that it's literally just a gamepad with trackpads taken from a laptop and is intended to do nothing except replace a gamepad, and it will forever be impossible to convince them otherwise.
