So these three are the only presentations in the public schedule I could find that are from valve.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
I guess the other stuff they announced on their website will be presented at their own booth and are not in designated rooms, right?

If so, I think we can expect to get the gist of all their new stuff already on Monday.
Unless they decide to do their VR demos and showcasing of their new hardware staggered, spread over the week.

not exactly. There are entire new interface, it allows you to control it with gamepad in every moment so you don't need keyboard anymore. Also, there are some kernel patches and os boots up in three seconds.

Wine bug #9001: Malware is not working properly

Also, whoever has autorun enabled deserves to get malware'd into oblivion
>>
>>46787744
Okay maybe GLNext will be good, but how they'll manage the drivers ? steamOS use linux kernel, and the drivers are, not bad, I'll say okay, but far away to be good.
Will they pay nvidya, intel, amd to get good drivers ?

oh and stupid question. Steam OS is opensource ?
>>
>>46797022
>Steam OS is opensource ?
It's a debian repo with a few patches for lower latency and a script that boots Steam on startup.
http://repo.steampowered.com/steamos/
>Will they pay nvidya, intel, amd to get good drivers ?
Nvidia drivers are already considered "good enough" being pretty much identical to the windows ones, and they are already shipping games for Linux. Presumably they are telling oems to lay off AMD for the time being
>>
>>46797022
Nvidia driver's OpenGL performance is as good as their DirectX performance on Windows.
AMD driver's OpenGL performance is as bad as their OpenGL performance on Windows.
Intel driver like all the open source drivers lags in feature support but the performance (at least on RadeonSI) is decent enough for playing most games. Hopefully Intel's newest integrated hardware is fast enough to play games.
>>
>>46797015
>autorun enabled
I thought linux can't read autorun.inf
>Wine bug #9001: Malware is not working properly
WINE can run most malware fine.
>>
>>46797219
well, I run windows sometimes, and use linux as my primary OS, and I can guaranty you that the drivers aren't good as the windows one. both nvidia and amd since I got two computers to test them. It's hard to say how much the windows drivers improve the performance, but for me it seems to be between ~x3.5 or x4
>>
>>46797219
I thought Nvidia were supposed to have bad OpenGL performance compared to DX? Or is that just shit like computation ergo LuxMark and and other ray tracers?
>>
>>46797469
That's mainly AMD's catalyst driver. The other big problem is that a lot of engines just aren't as optimized for Linux/OpenGL as they are for Windows/DirectX so some games still perform poorly.
>>
>>46797434
>autorun.inf
>implying you need that run an application.
>>
yeah because Valve is such an awful monopoly

Oh wait it isnt. Valve is fine, calm yourself.
>>
>>46797219
>AMD driver's OpenGL performance is as bad as their OpenGL performance on Windows
OpenGL runs faster on AMD cards than DirectX does. What's lacking behind on Linux isn't their OpenGL implementation, but the driver in general.
If their OpenGL implementation really was terrible, then AMD would have chosen to open-source their implementation like they're currently doing with the rest of the driver
>>
I hope you are joking, the only way to kill consoles is if they make a pc with the exact same graphics and stability( for the same price) as consoles that can run games at least 7 years into the future. and I dont mean indie shit.

Steambox can do that but i havent heard a thing about what happened to them.
>>
>>46797873
What's happening with them is that they're being shown off at GDC.
>>
>>46797820
It will be interesting to see how their new driver strategy pays off. For the moment though there's still no reason for me to even look at Catalyst when RadeonSI and Mesa work so well. With any luck the features standing in the way of OpenGL 4 support will start to drop in soon.
>>
>>46798085
I'm on Radeonsi myself too, because Fglrx truly is broken. A damn shame that barely any current AMD cards will use the new unified driver. So I guess future versions of Fglrx will only support Tonga, Hawaii and the 300 series.
They will. Mesa 10.6 will sure reach OpenGL 4.0 compliance, perhaps 4.1 or even 4.2, considering many of the extensions are already supported
>>
>>46797022
Dx12,mantle and likely glnext drivers are super simple
>>
SteamOS is cool and all, but I'd rather just install Steam on a distro of my choice. What is the base? Ubuntu?
>>
>>46798207
http://mesamatrix.net/
They are getting close, but R600 and RadeonSI are unfortunately still lagging behind. I want to believe that they'll get there this time around, but they've only added one R600 feature recently.

>>46798537
I wonder if they'll abandon run-time GLSL shader compilation in favor of a system more like how DirectX works. That would seem to really greatly simplify things.
>>
>>46798601
debian
>>
>>46798735
RadeonSI is getting better all the time, some tests are now exceeding FGLRX.

It's pretty much the only reason I read phoronix - to see the FOSS Radeon driver and nouveau's progress.

The DX9 state tracker news blew my mind.
>FOSS drivers playing Windows games faster than both Windows and Wine CSMT with proprietary drivers.
phoronix is a shit site otherwise, articles are 100% quantity over quality and the forums are worse than /g/.
>>

Only 'supported' OS'es for Steam are Ubuntu and Fedora (ie. Valve won't help you for dicks if it's not those)

The intel card is identical on both, intels pretty good about that.
The nvidia cards performs just as well on linux, only thing it's missing is the fancier windows interface, and shitty gimmicks like 3d in browser and co, the 'Geforce Experience' crap. Fuck that shit.

In time, yes.
Even more so if name does not change over time, while on the other hand JapanStation and MurricaBox have TTL about 6 years max, since sooner new ones come out, sooner new cycle of milk-the-consolefag begins.

Did Android outsell iPhone?
In 2008, people laughed when I said that Android is the future.
Well who is laughing now?
TBH, they are, because they are perfectly happy with their Android phones and everyone forgot about my prophecy.

Android is the future yet iPhone devs make more money on apps. Hard to be a dev and deal with piracy. iPhone has that too but I wager most people wouldn't go through the jailbreak process.

The steam controller is for these scenarios.
1. You can't / don't want to use M&KB or existing controllers

>Are you just talking shit? Did you even look at the shit that happened the last 1.5 years?
When some idea becomes established on 4chan, it's here to stay. When the Steam controller was unveiled, some people developed the idea that it's literally just a gamepad with trackpads taken from a laptop and is intended to do nothing except replace a gamepad, and it will forever be impossible to convince them otherwise. We'll be hearing about this for years to come.
