VLC may not be as fancy as your chinese cartoon players but it will always be the best general purpose video player. This fucker can play you corrupted .avi clips all the way to raw h264 files. It will play almost any codec you fucking throw at it. I will always have this player installed and updated in case I need to view some obscure video file format or play damaged video clips. It does sadden me that they have yet to implement a good set of video filters to make watching fifys acceptable like the sharpen complex MPC HE has.

Muh interface is a reason to use linux.
That being said, the interface of a media player is so trivial, because you interact with it so little. Basically all I want is to be able to start and stop the media using the spacebar, and fullscreen and restore the video with double click. And pretty much every media player will do that.
The interface would matter more if it was software that you actively interfaced with a lot, like video editing (that being said, you can of course do some editing in VLC.)
