How many hard drives can you fit in your case, /g/?
Using the bays? 5
Haphazardly throwing them in? Dozens
>>46702901
How do you power them, though? Even SATA power cables with multiple connections are hard as fuck to position for different drives.
1x 3.5
1x 2.5

I don't use that many drives but years ago I did hav e 6+ drives in my system. This was the time of IDE and I didn't even have enough bays for them. I literally had them laying on the bottom of the case stacked on top of each other
>>46702939
just lay them sideways
6 trays can hold at a 3.5 or 2.5
2 trays that can hold a 2.5.
However many my cables will allow for if I start fucking with them, and don't mind lack of care and/or air flow.
5 x SSDs
5 x HDDs
>>46703000
You forgot 5 x ODDs
>>46702731
Stock, 8x3.5" and 2x2.5".
>>46703000
>buying HDDs even though you have 5 SSDs
>>46702731
6x3.5" bays
1x 2.5" SSD slot
3x 5.25" bays
>>46703037
HDDs will still be better for mass storage until the price of large capacity SSDs go down.
>>46703019
5 x FDDs
>>46702731
1 SDD
1 HDD
0 ODD
Computer/case: iMac…

12, Hot Swappable.
Get on my level
>>46702731
I think I have 8 drive bays (full sized, 2.5 just go in an adapter).
6 Mountable Bays, so any combination of 6 HDDs or SSDs.
Could probably fit 4-5 more SSDs anywhere else in the case. Would probably need a SATA expansion card if I wanted that many drives, though.
10 with the standard mounting brackets.
I think I could fit 20 in here with something like the OP pic.
>>46702731
As it stands right now? 4. If i were to switch everything out to 2.5" disks and use 6x2.5" drive bays, I could theoretically cram 54 drives inside.
3 3.5" ones
6 2.5" ones using 3 Scythe bay rafters
A lot more using 5.25" to 2.5" bays. 5.25" bay is useless anyway.
On a sidenote: why do people buy 3.5" drives? noisy, huge, heavy, not much cheaper than 2.5" drives, not much faster than 7200 rpm 2.5" drive.

How to manage those awful IDE cables though
The real question is how many cases can you fit in your rack?
Mini master race
>>46702731
i've got 5 hdds, 1 ssd, and 2 dvd-rw drives in there atm
I have an SSD basket that holds like 5 or 6 idk, and then 2 HDD slots at the bottom of my case, tho could easily mod other areas to fit more if needed. No need tho since I have 2 SSDs and 1 HDD.
Corsair Air 540 btw.
>>46702731
Originally two, now 6.

>not much cheaper than 2.5" drives
3.5" is much cheaper for consumers. Sure, you can fit two 2.5" drives in the space of a single 3.5", but it's not like even datacenters use 2.5" drives.
>7200RPM sorted by cost per GB

3.5" starts at $0.032 and 2.5" starts at $0.069, that's more than twice as expensive.
Hey guys which is the best HDD suitable to storing all the films I download? WD greens or reds or a Hitatchi deskstar?
The WD greens are slow so are reds suitable to use every now and then? The blacks cost $$$.
>>46704216
Manage? You can't manage that. Airflow was terrible and the heat built up pretty quick. But I had hundreds of gigs which was rare at the time.
>>46704503
WD Blues are great, I have one in an old server of mine. Reds would work well too
