How bloated have you allowed your installation to become?
clean install a couple of days ago. trying to keep it as minimal as possible. I prefer to keep a C:\bin folder with my apps in rather than installing loads of things and restoring their configuration. Much easier to just copy and paste the folder.

On shit-tier operating systems like Windows, yeah. Most installers also initiate some bullshit startup service that increases boot times and RAM consumption, and Windows can't into permissions so these programs can do whatever they like.
I'm forced to use Windows for school, but I make a point to never use non-portable apps as they inevitably cause slowdowns.
>>46680114
With the browser that came with the OS. Also, there are plenty of portable browsers that I might be using.

>On shit-tier operating systems like Windows, yeah. Most installers also initiate some bullshit startup service that increases boot times and RAM consumption, and Windows can't into permissions so these programs can do whatever they like.
This!
You can see it on your own.
Look a at fresh installed and updated Windows and compare it to a Windows, which has been established a year or two ago.
Even worse: Every time to update your windows there happens something. For example if you install Windows and install straight all available updates it run fast. But if you install monthly the new updates then windows gets slow. With every update it is getting slower.
Very strange.

Well, it means the program can't set environment variables, so you have to do that by hand (e.g. setting GOROOT in order to be able to run the go compiler). But in general I would say it is much better.
>>46680313
Not for any program; most small and especiall open-source programs have a standalone version (look for a .zip file in the same directory that you download the .exe or .msi from) but some do not. There are groups like PortableApps that create portable versions of programs, but I'm wary of them.

Vmware thinapp is an application packaging and sandboxing software.
Basically it can be used to create "portable apps", and/or to sandbox apps that put crap everywhere.

No the black bars don't have to do with the output resolution, they're a bunch of different rectangles, not just two. Might have something to do with Optimus.
Even then, ShadowPlay has better performance and better quality. I know you're a lifelong winfag and haven't seen how easy and good screen recording can be, but trust me, OBS is not to my standards. And GFE also handles driver updates, and gives me an FPS counter in games, so I don't really regard it as something extraneous (and as you can tell, I'm a huge autist about not having extraneous bloat installed).

Fat chance, in fact it might not even work in Wine like GTA IV.
On the other hand future EA games might also be on Linux. But we'll see in a couple of weeks.

The Frostbite engine team already supported Mantle, glNext will be vendor and platform agnostic.
Valve already have stated that they don't mind having an Origin client integrated in Steam (the way they use Chromium now basically).
I'm probably jumping the gun here but it seems like the foundations for it are there.

But there is not enough users to buy those games on those platforms. You think the neckbeards who use fedora and ubuntu are able to afford games? They can't even afford an operating system for fucks sake.

Even if no one buys it, that will give them publicity and make them look like good guys, something that EA desesperately needs if they want to survive the next decade.

Who's to say moving to glnext doesn't make practical and financial sense. Ditching Direct3D may make porting games to Linux so easy they might as well do it?
Right now it's only the big studios that don't bother with GNU/Linux, smaller studios have been releasing games for all platforms for some time now.

It's beautiful :^
>>46682988
Pretty bloated, but considering this is my main pc and it hosts a few different servers thats fine.
I'm going to reinstall my laptops OS and see how lightweight I can make it, I'm interested in using SSH and running as much content from home or from a VPS as I can. If that works well I'm gonna fiddle with doing some hard power saving stuff and see if i can get a real decent battery life out of it.
It'll probably be a disaster, but interesting regardless.

My client is a daemon that runs on a headless server. I manage it through a web interface and ssh. I can add torrents any time, from anywhere, even from my phone and from RSS feeds. I throttle bandwidth based on the time of day so it doesn't interrupt my normal browsing. It just works and I have no ads or bullshit of any kind.
You don't even know what it's like to have a worthwhile torrent client anon.
Please tell me if my botnet is missing something
Trying out Windows 10 right now so I just have drivers and internet necessities.
My main OS in Manjaro. No installing extra stuff was necessary. It just werked.
>>46683278
I'm totally impressed. Tell me more about your almighty "worthwhile client", and how you can add torrents from your phone and RSS feeds. Tell me how nice and convenient it is to have a web-based torrent client, and how you "throttle" your bandwidth. This sounds fascinating. I want to know more.
You might not want to though, since you don't want to name it. Don't worry, I won't even try to use it.
