I work at a major hospital, running IT tickets.

I basically spend my day in and out of random offices throughout a 3 million square foot space, picking out which pens I like the most.

I typically grab any unguarded Pilot G2 or Zebra F-402, my two favorite cheap pens, or anything else that seems to be made well.

The Noodler's Ahab is probably the most useful pen I have; after I making the right adjustments.

It really makes no sense that students in America don't use fountain pens.

Don't know where you live, mate, but where I live any document you sign with a pencil is treated like a blank one. You cannot vote with any pencil. You cannot open a bank account. You cannot sign any contract, bill, statement, testimony - nothing more important that a love letter in kindergarten. Grow up.

Pencils are fine, but for specific, mostly unofficial tasks.

Yes. Grow up from the shill. And calm down. And when you do, read again carefully what you have written. :)

I do carry a pencil, mate. But I use to draw with it, not take my notes with it. I carry pic related as EDC and it is enough. By the way, I have never had any ballpoint pen failure other than running out of ink, even at -25 degrees Celcius.

Pencils also have disadvantages - they either smear (B) or give low contrast (H). HB smears as well.

And let me ask you:
>can't write in space
How often are you in space?

>can't write underwater
How often are you taking notes underwater and on what surface?

>needs to buy new filters
You meant fillers? Yeah. Like you have to buy new pencils or pencil leads. What's the difference?

>expensive

apologies for terrible penmanship and potato cam. If you want a decent starter pen just to try fountain pens that don't completely suck definitely buy this one over a cheap one from a stationery store.

Some of the design in this jinhao one is pointless and clearly only there to copy the safari which is a bit of a disappointment. Other than the jinhao grip being a millimeter or two longer to make up for the shorter nib the grips are all but identical in geometry
>>
>>46673173
P.S. the converter it comes with.. I don't trust it at all. It feels kinda rattly and shitty which is something you do not want in a thing that's supposed to be watertight. Drawing from the bottle of ink was really difficult, it doesn't suction well. I'd trust a cartridge + refilling with syringe much more which is the setup I have in the Safari. Less messy too.
>>
>>46672639

Google tells me that's a $500 pen. First, why in the fuck would you pay $500 for a rollerball pen? Second, you paid $500 for a pen and skimped out on shipping? No signature confirmation or anything?

>>
>>46673455

>>
>>46673411
Well I didn't get it for 500 but 200 usd instead.
As for the 'why a rollerball' part, I've already got a truckload of FPs and I was looking for something a bit more suited for taking quick notes during lectures. I find with FPs you either have to keep them uncapped during these lectures which dries them out and makes writing the first couple of words a bitch or you keep it capped but have to uncap and recap a million fucking times per lecture.

So I got a lava rollerball and a lava ballpoint somewhat cheaply: usually it'd be something like 450+150ish usd for the pair and now I got them for 200 and 100.
>>
>>46673553

That's pretty crazy, my man. What you want is a hooded nib so it stays wet longer. Lamy 2000 does the job. Pilot vanishing point is convenient as well, but I have no experience with it.
>>
>>46673673
I've never had a pen dry out while holding it, is it related to the flow rate? Mine are all set pretty low for quick drying
>>
>>46673673
But I do have a lamy 2000, however I find that it lays down too much ink and although it's a fine nib it's still too big for my taste.
I should find a nib meister to grind it down to more of a twsbi-esque F nib
>>
What is second from top in OP?
>>
>>46673698

Depends on the pen and the ink used.

>>46673804

This one's mine >>46663649 and I have it in EF. I can write consistently in 3 hour lectures without any drying out occurring.

My reason for not using my L2K isn't drying out though, it's mostly that it puts down too much ink and it's too broad.
I usually have to write my notes somewhat small+make small drawings and schematics and a broad wet FP just doesn't lend itself to well for that.

I tend to use the l2k for my homework when I don't have to rush notes and I can take my time with it.

Okay this is exactly the thread I was looking for.

I want to buy a really nice pen. However, it needs to be on Amazon because I have a $30 gift card. Price limit is 30-40 dollars. I don't really care if its a fountain pen or ball pen as long as its easy to use, works well, and is easy to use.

What do you guys recommend? I've tried to pick but I don't know the brands well and I'm afraid I'm gonna pick a shit one.
>>
>>46678601
>its easy to use, works well, and is easy to use.

fuck me im retarded
>>
>>46678601

Depends what you want. Fountain pens are cheaper over the long haul. A decently cheap fountain pen is a lamy safari and it has nice aesthetics to me. About $30 coupled with a bottle of ink around $45 in total. They also make a lamy safari rollerball which is a nice pen that just works at about $30 plus refills around $40 in total. Or you could get a pilot metropolitan and two or three bottles of ink. If you're getting something to write notes with then go for an EF or F nib.
>>
>>46678681
Thanks. What are the pros and cons associated with fountain and rollerball pens? Which is best for everyday use such as taking notes in class?
>>
>>46678781

Biggest pro of fountain pens are the cost over time. A bottle of ink will last you a year or more. You'll want nicer than regular paper though. They take more maintenance than a regular pen. Rollerballs just work. Don't get a ballpoint, they're shit.
>>
>>46678781
Fountain pen looks better in my opinion, but doesn't work with 0 gravity (reminder: earth is already in space). A roller ball pen does. Also: A roller ball pen (normally) doesn't leak ink (normally a fountain pen does neither, but accidents happen).

The rest is just personal preference.

Can anyone suggest a nice fountain pen? Preferably metal bit that isn't too important. Needs to be of a consistent diameter though, I hate nothing more than really thick pens with that stupid shape so many of them seem to have.
