Pretty sure the tor client can temporarily be updated to ignore all relays created after say November 2014 if they actually got 99.9% of the network being their nodes.
I remember this sort of attack being discussed last year and the the idea is that it's not enough to have a majority, you need to have so many that you will become every hop from the initial connection to the exit node. The issue there is that you can never tell what part of the chain you are with the exception of the exit node, so that should also make it hard to actually do anything useful here.
Anyone with more knowledge than me on the subject is free to correct me of course.

I wonder how conspiracyfags can explain the fact that Lizardsquad still exists if the NSA is tracking literally everything?
>>
>>45797098
NSA has much bigger fish to fry
>>
Daily reminder that there is no such thing as "hackers" or "getting hacked". Only intentional acts and gross incompetence. Ever stop to ask "how is this being done?" There is no such thing as magical hackers that can read minds or psychically teleport into private LANs and intranets. Why do we never hear of one guy being fired or otherwise held accountable at the client end for these data breaches? It's a fraud and it's a fake... don't be brainwashed lemmings.
>>
>>45797098
maybe the lizards are actually better than what people say? I've no idea what they use but, needs some decent skill to cripple networks like xbox live or psn and even tor, I guess
>>
Every totalitarian regime has used 'think of the children' as their moto to introduce new laws to 'protect' innocents as a guise to oppress. Hitler knew this. All those idiots crying about CP from a few bad apples whilst destroying their own freedoms in the process are sheep. I'd rather a few hundred thousand peds (most who do not actually offend btw) than the loss of privacy for hundreds of millions and the ability to post from oppressive countries.

But go ahead and cry moar moralfags. Enjoy losing your rights to your big brother police state.

What's ironic is that the ones who says "think of the children" or "we must censor the internet and track everyone to stop CP" are they very ones engaged in CP and harming children. Just take a look at the government officials, royals and rich elites caught raping children in the U.S., U.K., France, Australia, New Zealand and other places that push and pass censorship laws. The censorship laws and spying are not to protect the children, it's to protect the corrupt ruling class that harms the children.

##REKTT
>>
>The hacker group appears to be attempting to dominate Tor's relays to the point where it can comprise anonymity. Tor keeps you anonymous by bouncing your communications around a network of volunteer nodes. But if one group is controlling the majority of the nodes, it could be able to eavesdrop on a substantial number of vulnerable users. Which means Lizard Squad could gain the power to track Tor users if it infiltrates enough of the network.
Haven't we known this for a while?
If one person/group controls more than 50% of the exit nodes, then Tor is basically fucked? Why are they calling this a zero day, and why not just use a node not ran by LizardSquad?
>>
>>45797254

>This looks like a regular attempt at a Sybil attack: the attackers have signed up many new relays in hopes of becoming a large fraction of the network.
>But even though they are running thousands of new relays, their relays
currently make up less than 1% of the Tor network by capacity. We are
working now to remove these relays from the network before they become a threat, and we don't expect any anonymity or performance effects based on what we've seen so far.

The pedo witch hunt really needs to come to an end. I'm not even pedi, but I feel so empathetic towards them. Many of them don't even want to hurt children, don't want to even be pedos, and just try to get their fix. There's no seeking help if you're a pedo, due to mandatory reporting laws that hold psychologists responsible for clients who are known pedophiles, even if they've never acted on it.

Just let them get their fix. Catch the ones that are harming children. On one hand you wanna spin piracy of movies to be harming the industry but no the other hand pirating CP is supporting the industry? Fuck off. You're not "cleaning the streets" by getting some otherwise normal person off the street for trying to satisfy their urges in privacy without harming anyone. You wanna protect children from pedophiles? Dump some of those funds into treatment and prevention opportunities.

The way the system is set up is like if you sent everyone with unrequited love or unhealthy urges to be with someone to jail simply because there is a POTENTIAL that they MAY rape just because those urges exist; even if they try to week help for suppressing those urges.

Offer free chemical castration to those who come out as pedophiles seeking help, it would be cheaper than locking them all up anyway.

There are really tons if ways to handle this, but this is the absolute worse way. I forsee this coming up as a hot topic for future generations to battle like homosexuality is in our generation.

"1984" was a dystopian SF novel that used predictions about developments in technology as a plot device to talk about the present-day politics of 1948.

Doctorow's YA novels, specifically "Little Brother" and "Homeland," are not warnings, they're tutorials - about how to use present-day technology (only the names were changed) to deal with predicted future political developments.

That reminds me. Did the FBI get the IP requests to the "you are an idiot" video from the GOP taunting message?

I wouldn't be surprised if google kept records of the IPs that led to searches video or accessed the video considering what else google records. Pic related.

Even if it were behind multiple proxies at least it would narrow the time scale from the time that the FBI started investigating to the time the message arrived unless GOP had the foresight to store this link for a long time before using it.

Filtering for known proxy and VPN IPs in those requests would narrow the list down much further and give a foothold to start tracking the connections back further.

If you use Tor, I would follow the suggestion by another member of the mailing list [1], simply add to your torrc file:
  ExcludeNodes US
StrictNodes 1

That will disallow using any US nodes, which works since all of LizardNSA's nodes are currently in the US.

>>
>>45800478
Its not hard, do not use your IP, do not show your face to your groupmates, change your voice over mic, and constantly change your proxies everyday. I'm pretty sure this is how AVunit did it. You don't have to be a master leet 1337 haxxor to be invisible from the government. The NSA has a lot of blindspots, the FBI is worse, too many blindspots. It gets worse in Australia and UK. But man that guy is a legend in the hacking world both visible and underground. He pretty much got rich and told the whole world to go fuck themselves. He's still posting on his twitter.
>>

>>
>>45800440

A lot of US nodes are owned by the FBI/NSA. But its fair to say even foreign nodes are not safe. Its a Naval labatory product sponsored by DARPA.
>>
>>45797280

Funny, but he does write kind of like AVunit—at least from what I've read on his Twitter posts, Pastebin, etc. Very specific phrasing (especially with the comma splices), the conjunction "But" at the beginning of sentences, not capitalizing "Twitter"......
>>
>>45801336

Well right now they still have a lot of nodes running on the Tor network, sure Tor's design was such that they throttle new nodes and automatically not trust it for 3 days atleast. But they still need o get the Lizard nodes removed and i dont think Tor has come up with a way to automatically detect and do that

This is a blessing in disguise they were able to point out a flaw (inability to kick out bad nodes) at least

They should have stuck to taking down corporate networks though

> The core principle behind Tor, "onion routing", was developed in the mid-1990s by U.S. Naval Research Laboratory employees, mathematician Paul Syverson and computer scientists Michael Reed and David Goldschlag, with the purpose of protecting U.S. intelligence communications online. Onion routing was further developed by DARPA in 1997.

They've always been able to 'disable' malicious nodes. When a node gets tampered with or a few effeminate hooligans set up 3000 shitty nodes with a minuscule consensus to begin with, the directory authorities silently ignore them from the consensus vote.
No consensus = no client is going to pick you for any of its 3 hops.

Even if a client picks one of the niggered, slow exit nodes with low consensus, it still doesn't mean shit, because the first relay(the guard relay) isn't malicious. Not just any relay gets the Guard flag, it was to be a relay that's been around for a while, is stable, is fast, and had a nice juicy bandwidth rate. A shitty Google cloud trial server will never get the flag. The biggest source of wows in terms of possible deanonimization are the guard and exit relay, they haven't any chan to be the former, and very low chance of getting selected by a client in the latter. Not to mention there's also a middle relay that also has to be picked.
And finally, in days 0-3, no one really picks you; in this phase you just get test files sent through the relay to build consensus.

Anyway, it looks like they admitted defeat once the authorities dropped them from the consensus all together, shortly before leebinlizards took the site down for a bit (site being down doesn't mean shit to the network). Not to say that they won't try to pull another stunt like this.

Tor is not perfect, but all of this chatter about it being insecure/compromised fis coming from people who either don't know how it works and don't take the time to do their research, or shill "journalists" who spread disinformation (see Pando).

you'd substantially reduce violent crime if you removed a testicle each time.
In case of falsely accused, they can still reproduce, so it's not the end of the world. And for those that were guilty, they'd be reminded every time they pee.
And if they offend again, they get a severe reduction in testosterone. Extremely useful for the violent and the sexual offenders.

>Update: The Tor Project has released a statement about the attack. "This looks like a regular attempt at a Sybil attack: the attackers have signed up many new relays in hopes of becoming a large fraction of the network. But even though they are running thousands of new relays, their relays currently make up less than 1% of the Tor network by capacity. We are working now to remove these relays from the network before they become a threat, and we don't expect any anonymity or performance effects based on what we've seen so far." So hopefully this gets nipped in the trollish bud before anonymity is affected.

You're a retard if you think it doesn't. Seriously.
Tor protects people in iran and china. While iran doesn't have the same resources as the NSA, the stakes are higher. In iran, if you're a political dissident, the police knock on your door and take you away, and you're never seen again.
And china have been working against tor for years without success. And they have comparable resources to the NSA.
