so im trying to fix whatever the hell is wrong with my computer via Command Prompt.

Just found some instructions on forum no.666

How do I enter this shit exactly?

c:
cd sources
copy *.* r:

Is it C: (enter) cd sources (enter) copy *.* r: (enter)? Or the entire line at once then Enter?

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?48209-Unable-to-reset-your-PC-A-required-drive-partition-is-missing

for clarification

>>45762738

one line at a time
>>
>>45762738
>>Is it C: (enter) cd sources (enter) copy *.* r: (enter)?
Yes.
That's basically going to your C: drive, then the folder sources, then copying everything (whatever name and whatever extension) over to R:

I'm trying to "upgrade" my gf's ancient machine

She has Pentium Prescott, 1(maybe 2, i forgot) gb ddr2, NO gpu and mobo socket 775

Now, thing is, i have very little money so i'm thinking buying some core2duo, maybe q6600 if i find a good one, but i am not sure what gpu to buy. Mobo has appropriate pci slot but will run at 4x speed. That doesn't play a huge role considering gf won't play any games, it only needs to be able to play hd movies and surf the web. Any suggestions for <20-30$ ??

tl;dr, what used cpu and gpu would you buy for socket 775 and under 40$

A wildcard character is a keyboard character such as an asterisk (*) or a question mark (?) that is used to represent one or more characters when you are searching for files, folders, printers, computers, or people. Wildcard characters are often used in place of one or more characters when you do not know what the real character is or you do not want to type the entire name.
So if you use * before AND after the . (for extension), you are basically calling every file with an extension within that folder, since you are using the wildcard.
Hope that's clear
>>
>>45762809
anyone?
>>
>>45762835
so you're saying that I wildcard the drive letter for my recovery usb and it\'ll just pull everything from it?

I hope you mean that because things would make sense for once if that's the case
>>
>>45762897
if you follow the code you pasted here it will copy everything from your
C:/sources
over to
R:/
>>
>>45762876
Wait longer than 8 minutes, you ass. The thread isn't even moving that quickly.

Depending how what your budget is, I'd say it's not worth upgrading. Very little of that PC is reusable. You'll need to check what motherboard you have and whether it'll support a new CPU. Any integrated graphics is already more than enough for any video watching you'll do.

I have an external HDD that I do daily backups to. Copying files from the desktop to it. Is this a smart thing to do? Should I just do monthly or weekly backups and leave it alone? Should I just buy another HDD for storage?

>>
>>45763004
Weekly backups is the best you can do. Daily are better, but of course that's a lot more strain on the drive.
>>
>>45763004
If you have files you actually care about, burn to DVD at slowest possible speed then test. Spinners aren't backups unless you use several and use versioning so loss of one doesn't matter.

Study backup strategies and develop one that suits your needs.

Have you tried applying heat to loosen it? Hell, maybe you could submerge the thing in hot water since you're not applying any voltage to the thing.

I wouldn't try to wedge a screwdriver or something in there, for risk of creating scratches and dents that could screw up the contact between the CPU and the cooler.

I think acetone would also be okay if you're not getting anywhere with IPA.

My laptop's hard drive shit the bed so I got another one, same line. I got another copy of Windows 7 because I'd already used my license code on another computer.

I installed Windows and a bunch of devices won't work. The drivers won't load apparently. The ethernet controller, network controller, PCI device, SM bus controller, two of "USB controller" and two of "unknown device".

My USB controllers show up normally down in their section of device manager, but it can't even detect anything I plug in. Uninstalling the driver entries that aren't working (which all show up under "other devices") and scanning hardware just reinstalls them...but broken and with unknown, not available, etc, in all relevant fields under properties.

How do I force it to unfuck?

QUESTION: When physical damage is done to a HDD does it corrupt files or delete them?
I would think the floating head would hit the disk and scratch it or create a bad sector. If files were corrupted I can tell by using rsync on Linux or some other software; if they were delete I will never know.

I just dropped my 1tb HDD (see attachment):
It really fucking pissed me off because I always try to be super careful when handling it and I have a lot of good content on it.

The 8-pin connector I have in my 970 has two molex adapters running into it, if I take one of them out to power the rest of my case will that cause a noticable decrease in the power going to my card and the performance I get out of it?

Keyboard commands that involve the Fn key are resolved inside the keyboard's firmware. The OS does not know what the Fn key is.

My GTX770 has one VGA port and one HDMI port.
I have 2 monitors using them both.

How can I use a 3rd or 4th? Like how do I even plug them in? I assume some kind of splitter, but everything I find about them just says they duplicate the exact same image to the other display, not extend the monitor.

I googled. Everything I found was about whether the card is good enough to play games on multiple monitors, not how to actually use them.

Will the Moto G be noticeably faster and better with multitasking than my current iPhone 4S?

The Moto G has twice as much RAM (1GB vs 512MB) and a better CPU (1.2ghz quad core cortex A7 vs the 800mhz dual core cortex A9 in the iPhone 4S) but at the same time, iOS is obviously more optimized for the hardware than Android so I'm wondering if the performance increase might not be that much

So will it be a big step up in performance or not much at all?

Also, does anyone know if the amp/dac in the Moto G is good enough to power some dual balanced armature IEM's with an impedance of 36ohm?

What are the changes of me getting a new one through warranty if I return it? There is no visible damage to the enclosure of the HDD. It's easier to read, especially if you're dealing with 300+ source code files and I can switch between Files / Content quickly to see where it's hiding and I can right click and open it with my favorite text editor.
Compiled source code has shit like *.o, *.d and other shit I don't want grep gui to search.

im having some issues with openvpn client on fedora. ive never had a problem doing the same thing im doing now, before

>openvpn --config config.ovpn

this sets up tun0 and then i tell my torrent client to bind to that interface and itll direct all torrent traffic over the vpn

now it's not working and i don't know why

the tunnel is set up and it shows up in ip addr show. and when i traceroute things get weird

>traceroute google.com
it shows it going through the vpn tunnel, and google thinks i my ip is the vpn server's ip

>traceroute bgp.he.net
it's not going through the vpn tunnel and HE sees my home ip

i went to various ip checker websites and some see my home ip and some see the vpn ip

is linux doing some magic load balancing and picking a nic based on latency or something?

still doesn't explain why my torrents arent going thru the tun0 interface even though im explicitly telling it to bind to it

4chan sees the vpn's ip, so i had to use my laptop to post this because i dont feel like restart desktop (which has openvpn running atm) i don't know how to kill the openvpn tunnels without restarting.

help me out /g/ i know there is someone out there that knows exactly what i need to do

There must be something wrong with your network configuration, anyway when I use a VPN I usually block all the traffic from and to the "standard" net interface (eth0 in my case), except for the port/IP used by openvpn to communicate with the VPN server. This way applications will be forced to use the tun device and there won't be any risk of data leak.
You can do that with shorewall with is a frontend for iptables.

>i don't know how to kill the openvpn tunnels without restarting.

the following probably applies to your dashcam:

To copy or move files from an USB drive, or micro-SD card, to the internal memory of the tablet and vice-versa, a so-called file manager is needed. As Android does not include it, you can use free file managers such as Astro File Manager, OI File Manager or Linda File Manager, available on the Android Market. Trying to find out why this is happening.

While playing games, my screen blacks out every now and then. This sometimes causes both my game and Firefox to completely lockup forcing me to kill the processes. Sometimes I can keep playing the game but I think it depends on what game I play. It literally loses connection to my display and reconnects it a few seconds later. There are no driver crashes as far as I know. I see nothing in the event viewer. GPU temp isn't getting high at all.

Assuming I'm willing to drop the cash for it, are Solid State Drives now reliable enough to be the only storage in any particular system?

I don't use much space so I was thinking of going with a 500gb samsung 850 or 840 evo for both boot and storage.

You probably need more RAM.
4 gigs doesn't suffice with modern games anymore.
