Mate now supports a global menu.
GTK2, 3 , QT4 application supported. That means all applications will have a global menu.
http://www.webupd8.org/2014/12/get-global-menu-in-mate-18-with-topmenu.html
Why aren't you using the best DE ever?
The global menu works instantly (even faster than both unity and osx) and doesn't lag like KDEs global menu.
I am quite surprised and so excited about this.
>>45664040
Mate and Cinnamon are most half-baked DEs I've ever used
>>45664063
>literal GNOME 2 and GNOME 3 only debloated and better are half-baked
>can't even MATE properly
>>45664040
elementary os is finished
ubuntu oonitie is finished
gnome shell managed to finish itself
only good alternative left is LXDE
Obsolete fork of outdated Gnome 2.
Will never be rewritten for gtk3
Come on guys! Dont be shy!
Give it a try!

GNOME 3 is heavy, but I love it
>>45664107
It already has been, what are you talking about?
http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/status:gtk3
Why would I use a Windows 95 clone?
>>45664170
Fuck off.
is global menu meant to be an advantage?
can someone explain it to me?
it seems to be like;
a. more mouse movement
b. can't access a windows' menu until it's first placed in focus
>>45664127
This. The earlier versions were meh, but they really got their shit together one the latest versions.
>>45664236
It's more tablety, just like everything that is happening in the Linux world.
>>45664353
I stopped making excuses for the gnome dev team after 3.10
Nautilus is still horrible
Themes are still impossible to get working right
They broke terminal
The added a bunch of apps (yes 'Apps', like Documents, Maps, etc) that are pretty useless
KDE cant come soon enough. I wasn't aware Mate/Cinnamon was still being updated, I'll have to check it out if I can't wait for 5.2
>>45664426
>I wasn't aware Mate/Cinnamon was still being updated
Why would the Mint team stop updating their flagship DE?
>>45664407
How the fuck is a global menu more 'tablety'? Global menus have been around on the mac forever since back in the days black and white crt box apples
I'm not a fan of it either (because of the mouse movement thing) but its a better use of space than somethin like the Gnome black bar which is nearly fucking useless
>>45664236
This. It also makes it a necessity to have another system bar for the purpose of paging
>>45664113
ok
i'm gonna do it.
>>>/'90s/
If I wanted a global menu I'd run OSX, so, no.
Late time I used Mate it didn't have window snapping. Is this still true?
>>45666740
Nope. Just enable it under windows in the control center.
Can Mate do this?
>no
>>45667654
The MATE/Compiz Fedora spin can. If only they put more effort into making it not look like shit.
>>45667654
I don't mean to shit on it because it does look nice, but why would I even want that?
Is there anyway to not have 2 panels? Muh vertical screen space...
>>45667672
Simply remove the bottom panel and add window buttons to the top.
>>45667654
2007 called, but all I heard was incoherent muttering about aiglx
>>45667666
No reason, it's just fluff. It's nice for alt tab with cover switch though. Present all windows and desktop grid are really sweet. I have them set to top left and right corners.
>>45667706
I think KDE only uses OpenGL now.
>>45667757
Why is KDE so based but so impossible to run on 2GB RAM?
>>45667808
plasma-desktop is only using 179MB on my computer with all the nice settings turned on.
>>45664040
>Why aren't you using the best DE ever?
But I am
>>45667894
>instantanea
Is that razorqt?
>>45667894
How come neither the DVD installer I made at launch nor the net USB I made now wants to let me install openSUSE? They always default to ncurses then complain that they can't find the installation medium.
